Hi one and all. Sorry it has been a while since the last blog but we have done so much and travelled a long way. We hope you enjoy this episode. Remember to check out all of the photos. Unfortunately some haven't uploaded that well but don't worry they'll only be of beautiful scenery that will just make you jealous, lol. Whilst you may be cold and wet in old Blighty, fear not, as we to... Read Full Entry

The 12 Apostles: The iconic Australian highway that hugs the southern coast.

OK there are actually only about 7 of them but is still a spectacular sight. It was quite cold when we first arrived so not many tourists. When they did turn up the next day there were loads of Chinese, Indians & Russians - all on coach daytrips from Melbourne

This coast is noted for the many shipwrecks that took place along it. We too suffered a loss here ... Fiona's hat blew away and will rest on the rock edge.

Cape Otway on the Great Ocean Road is a great place to get close to wild koalas

These koalas are certainly doing more than we've seen in the zoo. We even stayed on a park that had koalas roaming around - Bimbi Park

The sun can be pretty extreme here, so we try to keep covered up. So we still have some white bits but Fiona hasn't changed religion!

Fiona was so excited to get here she went a bit trigger happy

Christmas in Melbourne

It always seem strange to see Christmas decorations in 30 degree heat. We decided to head to Melbourne before Sydney to get a bit more in the festive mood.
Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!
Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!

Melbourne is renowned for having narrow European style lanes with plenty of coffee shops for enthusiasts. They definately take their coffee seriously here, one size only. They even have cold coffee that has been infused for around eight hours! Which Fiona duly tested.

Meeting up with Irish Dan

It is great when you get to meet up with friends you first met whilst travelling. We first met Dan on the chicken farm in Margaret River, then again in Perth and now in Melbourne (thousands of kms away!).

Culture

Melbourne has bountifuls of culture. Great museums, live music & fantastic art galleries. Here I'm asking one of the exhibits for directions, he wasn't that helpful!

We visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to take a tour and try our hand at the sports museum. At the Shrine of Remembrance we were taken on a poignant tour. Hopefully our nations will continue to share culture and reverance for those who have sacrificed so much, though hopefully with not as many dead.

Just like Cambridge

With the river running through it and the rowers it could be Cambridge. Fiona was a bit upset that it wasn't as cool as it was expected. At least things are within walking distance.

This is near the most southerly point on the Australian mainland. We picked up Mareika, a German backpacker we met in Melbourne and gave her a lift to Sydney

No it is Bairnsdale. A really nice church to visit. Little gems like this, Ballina & Paynesville that you stumble across is what makes travelling so good.
