I work in the Rosco’s down the road on Fridays and another night during the week. I had also signed up to work the next couple of Race meetings on Saturdays as I didn’t know how many agency shifts I would get through the week. Turns out I wasn’t working this Sat so we went to Ramsay St and Ricky signed us up for some charity work on Sunday. The charity was Diabetes Research Foundation and they hold an annual event in each state, so it’s a big event - 10k people coming to Albert Park apparently!
After Caroline and Tuckers (which is in the same complex as Rosco’s!) we popped into Rosco’s for a nightcap. Ricky hadn’t been there before so he got to meet all the others who work there. It’s a Nepalese family that own 2 restaurants on St Kilda Road, and our flat is right in the middle of them! It’s really relaxed and the family and friends always pop in and out for coffee or dinner. Above all, the menu is great I get my dinner on my shift!!
We didn’t get home til about 12.30am which isn’t that late unless you happen to
be getting up at 6am to charity work. Ricky went to bed as soon as we got in because he was so tired from the night before (wonder why!!) but I stayed up to chat to Mum and Dad on the webcam. It’s amazing! It really makes me think I am not that far from home- just you think the same!
I crawled out of bed on Sunday and felt sick I was so tired! Off to Albert Park we went..................
It wasn’t a particularly nice morning but it turned out to be a cracking day about 10am. We were part of the team doing registrations for the walk. There were 2 other girls from EY that Ricky hadn’t meet so we just stuck together and had a bit of a laugh, shouting and cheering every time someone donated some money! We basically just had to sign them off and give out caps and t-shirts when people donated. There was lots of water and we couldn’t bear the thought of hiking it all back to where it came from, so me and Ricky jumped the desk and starting dishing it out!!
By this time it was 10.30am
and the sun was splitting the trees (now, that that’s unusual!) but it was really warm, about 25 degrees I reckon! (check out the photos!) Woo hoo - bring it on. We walked home in the sun and decided to head out for some clothes shopping and maybe a wee drink. There is a gorgeous view of the city from Albert Park, its only about a 20 min walk away, from the city and it's accrooss the road from us - hard to believe really.
Smith Street is North of the city - about 20 mins from us on tram and has some great discounted shops like Adidas, Nike, Quicksilver, Roxy, etc. So we did a bit of shopping and headed back into town for a drink. At Albert Park, we realized that the bit where the batteries go in the camera wasn’t closing properly and it was really annoying having to hold it shut when taking a picture.
So I think it was a deliberate mistake by Ricky that we ended up in a camera shop…..and of course, we bought a new camera. I was quite pleased actually as I’m hoping that it will erase all memories
of how we came to buy our now old camera!! Note to everyone:
DON’T BUY CAMERAS ON INTERNATIONAL DRIVE IN FLORIDA! It was an Irish bloke that recommended new camera and also recommended a bar called St. Jermones down an alleyway. All the best places in Melbourne are down dark alleyways!! It was a no frills, cool bar with an alley out the back where they had put some seats and musicians play. Odd place attracting all types, dark and dingy but something quite cute about it.
After a few drinks we headed to the All Nations bar on Elizabeth St. which was part of a backpacker’s hostel. This is the only place we have been so far that was really like a pub at home. Was good enough for a few but that was about it. Nothing special…..
Guided by our new companion, the Entertainment Gold book, we headed to a Nepalese Restaurant on Flinders St, where we got a main course free!! I love this book!! It was quite different, sort of like a cross between an Indian and Thai meal. Just as we finished, Ricky’s mum had texted to see if we could log
on to the webcam.
A lovely way to end a lovely weekend - chatting to family across the world!!
