ok so we made it to oz finally, to melbourne which is about as south as you can get, its really south.theres a place a few hours from us called phillips island or something that has penguins on it.havent gone. havent really seen anything here, been very lazy and just sat about most of the time.its very expensive. and cold.in fact its very much like england.too much like england.its kinda boring in that way, im not seeing anything new, its just more ozzy accents than there are in btown. the architecture of where we are is pretty 70s, as are the shops and the general feel.people wear flares.the 'cool' bits are so 90s i cant help but laugh as a walk down the street.its not like people dressing 90s in an 'ironic art student'kinda way, its ... read more

As I was quite anxious to see some Aussie wildlife I found my way to the zoo this weekend. It really is a great zoo, pretty typical animals but the "Australian Bush" is pretty open the animals are free to roam about. However most were pretty sedated and stayed in their own area. I was able to take some good pictures though. I thought this Koala was fairly active as far as koalas go anyway. I found out that Koalas sleep for 20 hours a day. They are the only animal that eats Eucalypts leaves which have a toxin that makes them sleepy. Basically they are just stoned all the time. I also got to see my very first "little penguins". These are the same type that live on Phillip Island. It is "baby penguin season" ... read more

Although I was amazed to see exotic animals & all, but is it right to deprive animals of their liberty by caging them in zoos for the amusement of mankind ? Australian zoos are among the best in the world. They are designed to replicate the animals’ natural habitat as much as possible. They are well maintained and the animals are properly fed & loved. Zoos are also built to provide safe haven for animals from the third world endangered of being captured by poachers. But it is not right ... read more

Well, only 3 weeks to go until we jetset overseas and that means only 3 weeks of work left and counting. We now have our passports, UK visa's, paid for our flights in full and now grasp them in our hands. Everything is done now, except for the packing and sad farewells. The next 3 weeks are now filled with many social commitments. Nathan (Brian's nephew) suggested a family day at the Melbourne Zoo. So Lauran and I, Mum and Dad, Scott, Tania, Bradley, Nathan and Katelyn all enjoyed an outing at the ZOO. The best day was chosen, as the temperature was a fantastic 22 degrees, not bad for the first month of spring! Lining up for the tickets I was devastated to read that the orang-utans weren't on display, but at the same time ... read more
