Sunset
Coming back on the Manly Ferry. Who needs expensive harbour cruises?? Hey ho people
Have just had quite possibly the craziest week in my life. When you hear the variety of stuff i have done then you will understand why.
Let's start back in Sydney. I can't even remember which days i did what but i'll fill you in anyway. Did some celebrity spotting on the Manly Ferry. The old Horton guy from the Vicar of Dibley was on there - talk about A list. The ferry was pretty cool too especially as its way cheaper than a proper Harbour Cruise but you get to see all the same things, plus we came back from Manly as the sun was setting so we got great views of the bridge and opera house at sunset. Speaking of celebrities, we had lunch outside Russell Crowes house at the world famous Harry's Cafe De Wheels (no me neither but i'm told its world famous) and browsed at the pics of all the celebs who have eaten there. Hey if its good enough for Elton "Drama Queen" John, then its good enough for me!! Was a traditional Aussie lunch of pie, mash and gravy (I avoided the mushy peas) - now that is classy!
Most of
Bondi Beach
The world famous Bondi the people who live in Sydney are fitness freaks. If you don't believe me just go down to the Botanic Gardens at lunchtime and try not to be knocked over by all the lunatics running towards you. Also while in the Botanic Gardens beware of all the Flying Foxes. Hundreds of bats flying around in the middle of the day, quite creepy!
Hung out on Bondi Beach for a while although it wasn't really swimming weather - far too cold - so took a walk along the coast instead and ended up at Coogee Beach where we found the best fish and chip shop ever!!! Its called Chish and Fips (the name is good enough for me) and it is just the best fish and chips i have ever had - drooling just thinking about it.
Also did a day trip out of the city and into the Blue Mountains. Why are they called the Blue Mountains i hear you say well let me tell you. There are Eucalyptus trees everywhere around the mountains and when the oil evaporates it hangs in the air and mixes with dust particles. If the sun is out then the mixture of the oil
Morning Snooze
Part of the Blue Mountains trip was a quick stop at a wildlife park where i came across this chilled out fella and dust makes the mountains appear blue. Really nice place to spend the day. Apart from the scary "Scenic" railway. You can do a walk into the bottom of the valley and the quickest way of getting back up is on the railway. Only thing is this thing is the steepest railway in the world and it goes really high. Not for the faint hearted at all!!
Finished my time in Sydney with the obligatory pub crawl, waved farewell to Vicky for now and headed out of the city on the Oz Experience bus the next morning. Stopped in Canberra for a little while and went to Parliament House and then the War Memorial before heading off to Jindabyne for the night. Got up the next morning and couldn't quite believe my ears when i found out where i was and what we were about to do. Jindabyne is a very popular ski resort. Yes thats right you can ski in Australia. Jindabyne is the ONLY place in Australia where it snows and as it is only a couple of weeks away from the ski season the mountains are pretty well covered. Nice to look at obviously but not enough
Blue Mountains
See the bluey hue? for our guide. Oh no we had to trek over the snow and through the mountains. 3 and 1/2 hours freezing our butts off trying not to slip on the ice. Never in a million years did i think i would be doing that in Oz and i absolutely never thought i would say that i actually enjoyed it. What an experience.
Finshed off the wierdness of seeing snow by spending the night in a Buddhist retreat in a little place called Ontos. Had to take our shoes off in the buildings and had the option of taking part in a guided meditation at sunrise. Erm, nah i'm good thanks.
Next day we left the monks behind and visited Tarra Bulga National Park. This park was full of rainforest and a total conrast to what we had been doing the day before. Had lunch at a winery so was forced to partake in a little wine tasting. Tragic. Had a little walk along 90 Mile Beach and then headed to our caravan park for the evenings entertainment.
Started our last day with a walk through Wilsons Promontory National Park which is absolutely stunning and full of contrasts. Rainforests and white
"Scenic" Railway
Concentrating too much on hanging on for dear life than checking out the scenery sandy beaches in the same place. Plus it looks out over the Bass Strait and is the most Southerly point in Australia.
See what i mean about the craziness of my week. In 4 days i walked through rainforest, through snow, on sand and hung out with some monks. Just your average week in Oz i guess!
Arrived in Melbourne yesterday evening and am here for a few days. Just enough time to do the neighbours tour, check out the Great Ocean Road and gamble in the casino (did that last night on the 1c pokies - last of the big spenders eh!)
