Part 1

Wednesday 10th December 2008

Today was the start of Cedric, Marie, Martin and I's Tasmania Road trip. I'd advertised for travel buddies on the hostel noticeboard and today we picked up our Nissan Tiida and drove around Hobart with me at the healm turning on windscreen wipers to indicate and attempting to drive the wrong way up one way streets in an attempt to leave Hobart and start our journey North along the Tasman Peninsula to Port Arthur.

Once I had aquainted myself with Tilda the Tiida we had a lovely drive through green rolling countryside and past some nice beaches to Eaglehead Point where we got a nice view of the coast and then onto Port Arthur.

Port Arthur was a Penal settlement - for those too hard for Sydney's jails. It was a tough place with a gruesome regime but nowadays its really nice with lots of gardens and the blue sky and nice scenery made it hard to imagine how hard things were before.

I was very excited to get to Port Arthur Campsite and pitch our tents for the first time.

Was exciting camping in the great outdoors but more exciting to find the local bottleshop and buy some Goon (aka a wine box) . Marie, the wonderful chef that she is cooked us up some tucker and we watched the many possums and wallabies invade the camp from the camfire......
