Miena to Hamilton
We had a very good day today with a cold start at 7 degrees but ended at about 20deg and sunny. Very pleasant ride down to Bothwell and had wallaby pie and chips at the Devils Den Cafe for lunch. Along the way today we saw sheep farms on the high ground with beef cattle lower down with some massive South Devon Bulls around s small lake. The land is very brown and does not look very fertile but the livestock looks very healthy regardless. As we approached Hamilton we turned right on the A10 and dropped down a steep hill for 3 kilometres which must be climbed tomorrow morning on our way to Hobart. A mutiny could be on the cards tomorrow.
When we eventually arrived at the Hamilton Hotel it was deserted and locked up. It also looked vert shabby snd neglected. Our thoughts were that it had closed down. After some time we found a handyman who did some work there. He rang her ans she was in Hobart having a tyre change and would be one hour. We duly went to a nearby cafe for tea and scones before arriving back as the landlady arrived. She duly showed us our rooms, which were very clean and nice. I take back all my earlier thoughts and remember not to judge on first appearances. The evening meal was very good and we are most happy.
Apparently the hotel was built in 1830 by a chap who was the local policeman, postmaster, poundkeeper and local mill owner. It got i brownstone buildings in Hamilton built by ex convicts in the mid 1800's. Another good day.
