After driving around 2500 kms from Esperance we were finally at the Flinders Ranges. I think we both thought 'this is the real Australia!' even though it was a very touristy and popular destination. Paul had seen a lot of Australia already before meeting me but this was new to him too.

When we got there it was mid afternoon and raining so we thought we'd explore in the morning. We found out that a bit of Wolf Creek had been filmed at the van park we were staying out, and Paul had the DVD, so what did we do? Yeah we decided to watch Wolf Creek in a tent in the dark, in the middle of no where! I must say it wasn't as scary as it's made out to be. Still worth a watch though!

The next two days we were off exploring various parts of the national park, it is quite big and we didn't get to see all of it, but the parts we did see were amazing, original aboriginal paintings on the rocks that were protected, various walks and trails, I just loved seeing the red dirt and rocks. On one walk we had to cross a large bit of water (large for walking over) to get to the next part of the walk....it wasn't a walk really it was various rocks you can climb on but I was stood there for ages contemplating it, I didn't want to get my feet wet. A few families came up behind us, the kids just climbed around it, they were laughing at us because we had stopped, well I stopped, Paul wanted to go ahead and risk getting wet but I was having none of it. In the end I did it and crossed without getting wet, in hindsight I must have looked very silly! Still we continued to climb and walk through the rocks. It was good fun.

During the second day we spent a lot of time driving around just taking in the scenery of the rocks and mountains, we tried to visit a gorge but it was closed off due to flooding, so we continued to drive. We saw a family of emu's which was cool, I think this was the only place we saw wild emu's, I had seen wild koala's and kangaroos but no emu's. Anyway by the second day we had seen all we could due to the flooding and rain that was on and off, so we called it a day and after stopping another night we headed off to our next destination ...
