Stacy & Paul

Paul emigrated to Australia 4.5 years ago but returned to the UK with me when we met in Australia in 2011. We're both brits. We traveled together and hope to go back there to live and explore the rest of the country. After that maybe the rest of the world!

After our last stop in SA we headed to the GOR. We had arranged to do more WWOOFing in Lorne, in a holiday/retreat place called Allenvale. We were also waiting to hear back about a farm job in NSW but until then continued on our journey. We travelled along the coast, passing other towns before we got to the GOR. It's a bit of a drive if you see everything! The first of our 2 days we travelled up to the 12 apostles, stopping at various viewing spots (such as The Arch, and London Bridge) of other cliff and rock formations. It was very very windy on this day, and we were hoping to catch a helicopter flight over the apostles, so we didn't in the end that day. The sun was setting by the time ... read more

After 3 days in Adelaide, there was one place we had to go, recommended by someone on another forum, and that was Victor Harbor. It wasn't too far from Adelaide, so we got there at lunch time. It's pretty small so admittedly not a lot to see but we walked to granite island (really a short walk across the bridge) where you can see penguins coming in from the sea at dusk, or pay for a viewing during the day. We didn't pay to see so we just walked around the island and then came back again. On this day it was starting to get very warm! Warm for us Brits anyway ;) so for the first time in Australia I had a swim in the sea! No worries about any deadly creatures in that part ... read more

During our time in the Flinders, we applied for a job orange picking in Wakierie, inland SA. We heard back and it sounded positive and as we weren't too far we headed down there. We met the manager and all sounded good, except for when we were shown the accommodation....not even something you'd let your dog sleep in! I wasn't safe structurally or clean so we thought we could stay in a local vanpark....wouldn't make as much money but better than nothing. So we rocked up and paid for a week, hopeful we could get on with the job. After a few days we heard nothing back, maybe because we wouldn't stay in their accom we don't know, but we cut our losses and headed for Adelaide. Whilst we were on the road to Adelaide, we ... read more

After driving around 2500 kms from Esperance we were finally at the Flinders Ranges. I think we both thought 'this is the real Australia!' even though it was a very touristy and popular destination. Paul had seen a lot of Australia already before meeting me but this was new to him too. When we got there it was mid afternoon and raining so we thought we'd explore in the morning. We found out that a bit of Wolf Creek had been filmed at the van park we were staying out, and Paul had the DVD, so what did we do? Yeah we decided to watch Wolf Creek in a tent in the dark, in the middle of no where! I must say it wasn't as scary as it's made out to be. Still worth a watch ... read more

After Esperance we talked about going to Adelaide, but there was one thing Paul really wanted to see and that was the Flinders Rangers National Park, I was of course up for exploring anything, so we started the very long journey from WA to SA. Crossing the nullabor, I was excited at first as it's a famous road with the 90 mile straight, in reality it was very uneventful! I passed the time reading and me and Paul had a competition of how many waves we could get from people coming the other way.....he played it cool and just raised a finger at the wheel where as I did the full on wave! Must have looked a bit loopy! I still won though :) our first stop was Caiguna, it's basically just a place where the ... read more

After our lovely time in Denmark, we headed to Esperance (meanwhile still on the look out for farm work). It took about 4 hours to get from Denmark to Esperance. Paul had been here previously and wanted to show me what I was missing! It's a small town but has the most gorgeous beaches, and with the famous Cape le Grande NP nearby. We had a wander through the town and strolled along the waterfront, and went on The Great Ocean Drive, about 25kms altogether with beach after beach, I was dying to get my feet into the water but it was still too cold. The next day we went to Cape le Grande national park, a short drive away from Esperance. Again we explored the picturesque beaches and walked up Frenchmans peak which is pretty ... read more

After my lovely time in Perth, and meeting up with Paul, we headed down to Denmark, to WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms) it's a scheme where backpackers can work in exchange for food and accomodation, we thought we'd do this whilst we try and get some paid work! Plus Denmark was meant to be a beautiful part of Australia, and it certainly was! We briefly stopped at Margaret River before heading to Denmark but I can't find any snaps! We stayed on an Alpaca tourist farm, helping them feed the animals, we got to hold and feed koala's, kangaroos, alpaca's, birds, rabbits, goats and plenty more farm animals! We stayed there for 2 and a half weeks, during our spare time we explored the local area and beach - Greens Pool. We also had a ... read more
