The rain has finally stopped, and the sky is blue, but the temperature is still very cool.
We spent last night in Ceduna, at the “Airport Caravan Park”, the last park on your right as you leave Ceduna for Port Augusta
Not a 5 stars park, but what we found was “Steve” the most helpful and courteous person one can wish for. Ever since we left home, I had trouble with the sway bars that kept popping out of their sockets, the caravan repair shop at Bunbury was no help at all in guiding me either, and we left, hoping for the best.
Needless to say that it was hard keeping the van stable when driving, especially with the weather that we had….
Talking to “Steve” about that problem he said to me “ don’t worry, call me in the morning before you go and I will show you and teach you how to do it”
Morning came and Steve well and truly spent time with me and really took the time to explain and, not only showed me, but got me to do this safely and well. What a blessing that was, as the van handled
Great Australian Bight
New Head of the Bight Marine Centre itself much better when we left this morning.
We did have a meal there as well, and even now that it was not the” Ritz” the fish was delicious and the atmosphere very friendly. The cost of the park was $22.00 and the facilities were adequate, in fact much better then in town.
We were amazed to see how Ceduna has changed over the years, but what we found very shocking was to see the alcohol problem in the town itself, the language and the drunkenness of the aboriginals is a real shame, we called to get a cask of wine at the liquor shop, and discovered that we could not get this before 4 PM, I still wonder why we have to be penalized for the behavior of the so called “rightful inhabitants of the land” I also found very disturbing that the “Ceduna Beach Front Caravan Park” has 6 feet wire fence and barb wire on top of that, and right around it, all because of the indigenous citizens. When are our politicians going to get the courage to admit that there is an issue and stop throwing good money after bad hoping that it will
Whale Lookout
This is from the Great Australian Bight, between Yalata and Ceduna, a 12 Km detour to see the whales do the job? Of course, it is politically incorrect to be seen to criticize, as you are then accused of being racist.
Another similar place was Nundroo, on the Eyre Hway, there, the women were walking around cars and vans with baseball bats, is this to make you feel welcome???? It is interesting to note that they had just received $1000 bonus per child (along with everybody else who has a child, I have to say), however, we did not see any white people rolling drunk in the streets and the children roaming free. When is this going to stop????
We now have reached a park were we did get a pleasant surprise. Any caravaners should really spend a night here, the ablutions are on the par with a hotel and each shower is an ensuite, the men are also treated to luxury. The name of the park? “Gawler Ranges Caravan Park” at Wudinna, very quaint, they also boast motel units and a restaurant. We intend to have barramundi tonight. (See photo of the park). And the bonus? $22.00 a night
Tomorrow (15th) we will move on to Port Augusta, we have to reach our destination (Victor Harbor)
by the 22nd of December, and hopefully start discovering the Fleurieu Peninsula
