We spent the last day by the pool in Rainbow Beach with some of the girls from our Fraser Island trip. Then we went to a travel agent to book some more trips and hostels for the rest of our trip. We ate out for lunch while we waited for our coach to the next stop, 1770. The coach was 7-midnight so I slept for most of the journey. When we got to the bus station the hostel (Southern Cross) had a pick up waiting which was good as we were really tired and we checked into a really nice room- except the cockroaches. We spent about 20 minutes trying to catch them and put them outside our room!
Thursday we woke up to get the free breakfast of toast and Nutella, which I was excited about because we hadn't been able to buy Nutella as it was too expensive! Then we got a bus to the beach and sunbathed for most of the day. In the evening we decided to make mash, chicken and vegetables with gravy- it was so good! Then we had a watermelon after 😊 After we went back to our room and we had two
new boys in our room, Scot and Lewis, the hostel we were in wasn't very busy so we decided we would all go and watch 'Last Vegas' in the TV room and have tea and chocolate- the film wasn't very good!
On the Friday we got up early to go to surf but the weather didn't look good so we sat by the pool instead until our Scooter Roo Tour at 2. We got picked up and given an induction on driving scooters. We has to have at least 6 'tattoos' to be allowed to drive and then were given our flame leather jackets and helmets. Once we had chosen a bike you had to drive round the track so they could see if you were confident enough, if not you could go on the back of the instructors bike. I was terrible at first but after a few times round I was getting better. Emily and Alex were going on the back of instructors bikes but I was allowed to drive my own one- just! Then we went out onto the road where I drove for about half an hour but it was really windy and the bike
kept moving to the side so they asked if I would prefer to go on the back of a bike like Alex and Emily so I did. It was so much more fun on the back of their bikes because they could drive a lot faster and do tricks on the bike! We drove for about 2 hours out to watch a sunset, passing kangaroos (the first I had seen!) and going through the town of 1770. Once we got to the sunset viewpoint we had potato wedges and some cheesecake and watched the sun go down- it was amazing! Then we set off back to the Scooter Place and went back to our hostel. It was Scot's birthday so that evening we got some drinks in the bar to celebrate with him- but 1770 is quite quiet so we stayed in the hostel and had to buy drinks from their bar which shut at 9.30- so we had to stock up on ciders before then. We couldn't drink much though as our coach was at midnight to Airlie Beach and got in at 9.30 in the morning! I slept for the entire journey!
On the Saturday we had
a quick look around and had a little nap but we were mainly waiting for Alex to arrive and join us! We did find some really good chips, cheese and gravy for $5 which were amazing. Alex got in at 8.30 in that evening which was really exciting that she was finally there! We went out that night to celebrate her arrival, starting with a few drinks in our hostel, Magnums, then on to a club called Africa which was good but the music was terrible! Then on Sunday we went to the Lagoon for the day where we bumped into Eric, who had stayed in our room in Byron Bay so he hung out with us for most of the day until his bus came in the evening. Then we hung out in our room and I called a few friends for a catch up! The next day we went to the lagoon again and I sorted out my Australian bank account- I'm officially an Aussie now! Then we had a BBQ at our hostel, our first since being here, which was really nice. Then we went out that night with a girl from our room and some Canadian
guys who were in the room next door. We went to an Irish bar and then back to our hotel bar because it was cheaper! The following day we were told about a private beach we could go to, it was really quiet and was pretty too. We stayed there most of the day, but had to keep going in the sea because it was really hot. In the evening we watched a guy play music in our hostel and had an early night.
