Opting for another farm stay, we booked in to Shiralee Clydesdales about 10km outside Rockhampton along Emu Park Road. It is a relatively new farm stay having only welcomed campers since May this year and the owner is in the throes of improving facilities – currently there is no water or power. There is space for around 10 vans with each spacious site defined by hay bales.
Guests are welcome to pat the horses – and these gentle giants certainly enjoy the attention, especially the mares and foals. The one stallion we could spot was a bit more aloof and if people approached his paddock he just wandered off in a different direction.
It made for a very pleasant experience and certainly a different style of camp.
