Day 1 Long Island
Today i slept in until 10:45. Breakfast i just had noodles which I had brought over from the mainland. A group of us had books and magazines and spent most of the day sunbaking, reading, sleeping and swimming. Some people joined in on the water sports. There was waterskiing, jetskiing and donuts on offer.
A few of us went on one of the hikes in late afternoon to "Humpty Rock". We thought there would be a look out at the other end of the island but it ended up just a big rock n that was it. I got attacked by a big wasp up there. Pretty funny. Theres supposd to be quite a few snakes on the island but we didn't see any. There were lots of wild bush turkey though.
For dinner I went to the Islands cafe and had squid and chips and it was around $15 bucks so not cheap but its wasn't too expensive.
That night I ended up getting an early night of about 9:30 because i had come down with a cold and /or flu and took the chance to rest while I could.
Day
2
There was a catamaran sail optional which got canceled. Another boat was on offer but we actually all found our own boat. It was a lot cheaper. It was a catamaran so we did not sail but we picked a boat that took us both to Hamilton Island and Whitsundays Island - Whitehaven Beach. The boat was $83.00 and it was a full day. First we went to Hamilton Island and were given 3 1/2 hours to look around. I'm really glad I got to see it. Very very different to Long Island. Many different areas & more than one shop. Everyone gets around the island on golf buggies. Its pretty impressive how fast they can go. Some people really hoon around on them. We had a look around the shops and got breakfast. There was buses to get around the island so we got one of them to one of the beaches and stayed there until we had to go back to the boat.
After Hamilton Island the boat took us over to Whitehaven Beach. There is no accommodation on the island, no camping allowed. You can only get to the island by boat. Boats are
all restricted to their visiting time. Whitehaven is said to be one of the worlds top 5 beaches and has the worlds (or one of depending on who you ask) whitest sand. The sand is silicon so it does not get hot. No matter the temperature you can still walk on it barefoot and wont burn. We were given 1.75 hours on the island. We went for a swim, kicked around a soccer ball and then worked on the tans. We all did our posing water shots too and jetstar jumps. Some people got some really funny shots but we only took them on one camera so I don't have a lot of them. It was a really nice beach and really nice day. I'm so glad we made the trip to the other island to explore. I'm not the sort of person who can sit on the same beach all day every day. It was a great way to kill the day.
That night I just got a hamburger at the Cafe and then pretty boring. I ended up doing my laundry and having a few drinks with the others while I was waiting. It was insane though
the dryer must have been weak as 90 mins n everything was still damp.
There were these birds on the island. Crazy insane. They sound like a woman screaming. Getting murdered. We were warned about them our first day there but you don't believe the sound to you actually hear it.
That night majority of the girls hung out drinking in the spa and pool side bar. Its great its a swim up bar and stools in the water so you don't need to get out. Dangerous though, you don't need your wallet as you can just charge to your room. This led to some problems the day of checkout though. People spent much more then they realised and others didn't pay and our guide copped the bill and gave a very angry speech on the bus, as she should, asking those involved to pay her back.
