Leaving Port Douglas.... Tasha and I had arranged a transfer at 3:30 am from Port Douglas to Cairns to catch our 6:00 am flight to Brisbane. Unfortunately our transfer didn't show up and we had to wake up the hotel manager to get the next transfer for us, at 4:30 am. As it is at least an hour drive to Cairns, we were worried we would miss our flight... and sure enough, we did. I was pretty upset, but thankfully there was space on the 11:00 am flight and from there everything was smooth (the flight and the transfer from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast).
I arrived on the Sunshine Coast on December 24th (Brent's birthday). He is house-sitting his coach's house, which is right across the street from the ocean! This is where we're staying for the rest of the time I'm here (aside from our sailing trip). It's absolutely gorgeous and I can't believe people actually live here every day... this is their life! Incredible.
It was amazing to be reunited with Brent after three months!! I settled in and then I gave him his birthday present... yes, finally he was given the scrapbook!! He loved it
Home away from home
Brent's coach's house, across from the beach, where we are staying. and he was a bit overwhelmed by the letters and contributions from all of his family and friends. But overall I would say it was a great success. 😊
The beach here is incredible. It's not busy at all, hardly any people actually, and the sand is very fine and soft. It's just beautiful.
Christmas morning we woke up and exchanged stockings and presents (it was kind of strange to see a Christmas tree with just 2 stockings and 2 presents underneath!) Brent got me a little miniature tripod for my camera, some zinc sunscreen, a beach towel from his surf club, and a Roxy rash guard shirt which is pretty cool (useful if I get to try surfing!) We then spent Christmas Day at Brent's roommate's parents' house (if that makes sense). They have a beautiful place across from the beach as well! It was a very hot day, very different from my usual Christmas!
Since Christmas, we have spent a few days relaxing on the beach and swimming in the ocean. The waves are huge (well, I think so, but apparently they are still 'small' for what is normal for this time of year). It's

A picture of their balcony lots of fun though!
Today we went to the Australia Zoo... what an incredibly fun day!!! We started off by touring around and seeing some animals... I spent quite a bit of time in the koala sanctuary. We then watched the show put on in the 'Crocoseum,' which began with snakes, then there was a tiger show, followed by a bird show. Finally it was time for the crocodile show, which was put on by none other than STEVE IRWIN, the Crocodile Hunter!! That was pretty cool!! He's not always there to put on the show, so we were lucky. After that I got to hold a koala... lifelong dream fulfilled!! After that we got some lunch, and then went to Roo Heaven, where we got to walk around and pet kangaroos. It was a hot day so they weren't too active, but it was pretty cool to pet them! They are actually very soft. We saw some other animals, and then we left around 3:00 pm. We got home and went for another swim in the ocean before dinner.
All I can say is... this is the life. I am in heaven.
