Hi All,
Quite a busy first four days traveling just over 2000kms through the wonderful outback. Our first stop was Nyngan on the banks of the Bogan river, a pretty camp but near freezing conditions so was glad to keep moving. Next day we introduced Julie and Craig and their "nice" all wheel drive" (which incidently has BFN number plates) to the aussie dirt road - red dirt!!! They coped but I think they will stick to tar where possible! We stay at Gundubooka, a national park about 70kms south of Bourke, it is quiet and very beautiful particularily the Yappa Rock Area. The chainsaw got an outing and needless to say we had a kick arse fire.
Day three was a driving day Howes and Bush 300+ kms on the dirt whist Julie and Craig opted for extra kms and tar. We were hoping to get to Quilpie but only get to a place called Toompine. This turns out to be just a pub with no town. The bonus though is the accommodation and hot showers are free and we are allowed to throw our beds out in the community hall rather than pitch the tents. BONUS! Especially as its

Bogan River now dark and starting to rain.
Day Four is hell day! Wake up to rain and to find bushies not happy as their camper is leaking. On the road for breaky at quiplie before heading north towards Longreach. The road is one lane tar with dirt either side. Its not long before we encounter the first road train and they don't move. So I am traveling at 70kms with an oncoming RT so I get off onto the dirt only to be flung sideways back in front of the roadtrain then over to the opposite side of the road on two wheels and off into the scrub. Yep definitely an OH Fuck moment but luckily we are still here to tell the tale with no damage to people or vehicle. The sides of the road have turned to mud which the cars just sink into and traction becomes a thing of the past, Bushies also experience the joy of mud after also getting off the road for a roadtrain only to find their car and camper sliding down the verge and bogged. Chris has to construct a rock bridge to dig them out. We all cut our speeds and stick

Gundabooka together from this point. We have a long slow drive to Longreach desperately avoiding the mud where possible. I have a very close encounter with a wild boar and manage to get a decent size stone chip as well. Did I mention its still raining, Oh and there is no accommadation in Longreach so we have to pitch the tent in the mud, rain and freezing cold. But Fuck Nowhere has lost some appeal at this stage.
Day five is clean up and check out Longreach, Hall of fame and the local shops etc. Tomorrow off to Cloncurry and hopefully warmer, dryer weather.
Cheers
Lee and the BFN tour gang.
