19/11/2008 From Airlie Beach we took a ride to Kroombit in the 'Insane Asylum' driven by Uncle Buck. It was an epic days driving, leaving at 7am and arriving eventually in the Australian Outback by early evening. Uncle Buck was a legend playing many random games on the bus including this...On half on the windscreen he drew a grid with squares, there were teams of 3 and about 10 teams. Each team had a square and you got a point every time a bug splatted on your square. After a while of driving we stopped for a session of bare foot lawn bowls in which myself and Lee hammered fellow travellers Charlie and Amanda. When we arrived we checked in so to speak as it was just a wooden bench with a cashbox and allocated our ... read more

Krombit Cattle Station!!! Ok first things first. Staying at a cattle ranch was not my idea. As part of the Oz Experience there are a couple of compulsory stops that we had to do because the drive from one place to another was so long it needed to be broken up for the driver's sake. Secondly - after a quick toilet stop our bus driver Dain managed to leave one of the girls on our bus behind - nice one! We signed up to do some horse riding - which involved herding up a load of goats in a field whilst on horse back. Pretty cool I have to admit. Me and Cassy (my horse who was also white and blond) did a pretty good job - even if I do say so myself! Later ... read more

A lot of the people from the boat met at 5 to go and have one of those communal barbeque meals... I, being quite the experienced pro at these by now was head chef along with karl (a french canadian guy from the boat) and we cooked up quite a feast. Much eating and drinking later and we headed back to beaches bar for the pre-arranged afterparty. For every 4 peopel that turned up we got 1 free pitcher of drink and were all getting extrememly merry - generally singing far too loud and makign far too much noise. In australia however this doesnt appear to be a bad thing, quite the opposite actually- the bar staff gave us another 2 free pitchers for being "enthusiastic"- i think they were just happy that we were livening ... read more

30th April - 1st May - Birthday On The Ranch After a night with no sleep at Airlie Beach, having stayed up until 4AM to watch Manchester United reach the final of the Champions League, we were back on the bus down to Kroombit. It is here where the cattle ranch is situated and for the first time we headed inland into the Australian 'outback'. This was to be our longest bus journey yet, lasting a total of 11 hours! As the journey progressed the landscape began to change from the beach/ rainforest into the typical red dust of the outback. With Australia having its worst drought in 100 years many farmers in this part of the country had come a cropper. With a lack of water to feed the animals, cattle farming was on a ... read more

Hey guys. So having left Airlie beach, we made a mid morning stop to play some lawn bowls. Now i did quite well, having played a few times with Dad, though the lawns were too brown and fast for my liking! Plus it was too hot, even for bowls. From there we travelled, whilst watching starsky and hutch, to Rockhampton for a subway lunch, happy days, who says i cant splash out every now and then! And then the last leg of the day to Kroombit cattle station was covered by Die another day. Also, during this leg of the journey the scenery was particularly good, especially the last 10km or so down a dirt track to the ranch. Though we arrived in rain, yes rain, it cleared up for a lovely evening. Having checked into ... read more

Wooo Hooo, its my Birthday!!!!! We left Bundaberg thismorning,to leave for the Cattle Station in Kroombit, and got our fav driver Forest, he is so funny, a lo of the other drivers are a bit boring. I only had about 2 hours sleep so i was really tired, but the girls and Forest supprised me and decorated the bus with balloons and a hapy birthday banner and sang happy birtday to me! It was really nice, made me feel special. When we finaly got there we checked in and got straight down to things. First we went to the shooting range, Forest paid for me to do the shooting as a birthday prezzie!!!! How exciting!!!! We each had 5 shots, I hit my 1st one then missed 2 but then got the next one! I was ... read more

We began our Kroombit Cattle Station with a goat muster over the hills- I'd never even sat on a horse before! It was one of the most brilliant days of my life. We had an awesome bush meal over an open fire, learnt the skill of whip craking and had a go on a mechanical bull!... read more

LIKE A REAL COWGIRL...on my form i decided that i had been horsebackriding in the past therefore i wasn't a beginner and put down intermediate instead... what the HELL was i thinking?! they assigned horses according to experience (which i have very little of) my horse was called "ledger"...he was a jerk... the relationship between us started off bad..i got onto this step thing to get on him..i swear to god he moved ever so slightly and i fell right ... read more

Kroombit was a cattle ranch in the outback. The night i stopped was Miss Kroombit night and no men were invitted so of course the only way in was to dress up as a woman and take part in the padgent! Events included a cat walk, bull riding and whip cracking. As you can imagine it turned into a pretty good night. The next day we also got to do a goat raodeo (basically catching a goat and wrestling it to the floor) try to play a didgarydo and clay pigeon shooting which was fun too.... read more
