Clay shooting
I got 3 out of 5 clays - not bad! Happy Easter Everyone!
The oz bus took us from Airlie beach to Kroombit cattle station which was a compulsary stop. We didnt get there until late evening. It is a working cattle ranch and all the people working there had cowboy hats on. After a meal we were taught how to crack a whip - it is harder than it looks! I couldnt get the hang of it and ended up whipping my arm! There was also a mechanical bull which James and katie went on (James lasting 30 secs, katie lasting 1 sec).
In the morning, after getting up at 6am some of the group (including katie) went on horse-back to round up the goats. When they got back we all went clay pigeon shooting - which was wicked fun! We had 5 clays to shoot each - James shot 4, Sarah shot 2, Katie shot 1, I shot 3. You could also play a game wher you catch a goat and pretend to brand it but i didnt like that because the goats seemed distressed so i didnt participate in that one.
At 10.15 we started our long drive to Hervey Bay arriving at 4.15pm. The
Middle of nowhere
We were in the middle of nowhere when we went to Kroombit town is know for being quiet and a bit of a retirement town - it is usually just a place backpackers use to get to Fraser Island from. But I think it is quite a nice little town there isnt much to do but there are shops and there was some kind of fair near the beach today but it is probably just busier because it is Easter weekend. Yesterday we made the trip over to Fraser Island. We wanted to do a 4 Wheel Drive trip by ourselves but it was so busy because of Easter that we ended up booking a one day tour. It was good though we were on the bus a lot of the time but that is the only way we could see as much of the island as possible in the short time. We had a walk through the rainforest on the island. It was a very bumpy ride, the island is made completely of sand, there are no roads. There are just 2 main dirty tracks that only 4 wheel drives can go along. The bus was a 4 wheel drive by the way. Next we went for a buffet lunch in
Forest
Walking through the forest on Fraser Island a cafe, then we drove along 75 mile beach which was pretty awesome. There were cars going up and down there like a normal road. We stopped at a shipwreck that is on the beach, and then stopped again at Eli creek which was lush. It is a little creek on the beach, very shallow you can walk up it and it is really clear, lots of people were swimming there. Our next stop was to a lake that i cant remember the name of at the moment but it was pretty and secluded. It was also Freezing!!! We went in and apparently the water conditions your hair, rubbing the sand on you is like having a facial and you can clean your jewellery in the sand. It was nice in there, it was pretty shallow until you got right into the middle which was 7m deep (i didnt go that far). That was the end of our Fraser Island trip it was such a nice Island.
We have 2 more days in Hervey Bay now so we have just been chilling out, sorting out accommodation for the next couple of places we are going to etc.
