Diesel simulator at The Workshops Rail Museum
On the sunshine coast there were too many choices in towns to stop. After chatting to some local people in Noosa, we settled on the town of Caloundra and set up camp at Dicky Beach We enjoyed a couple of days with fine weather which allowed us to soak up some sun and check out the local playground and café strip. Most importantly PB got some surfing. Mum (Liz) flew into Brisbane and caught the shuttle up to join us for a bit of our journey. Unfortunately the rain arrived with her. The boys were eager to show off to Nanna their swimming skills and bravely swam in the freezing pool. We left Caloundra and the rain and headed to Brisbane. We caught the bus to Southbank and enjoyed some sunshine and a coffee overlooking the city. After a wander through the markets we caught the Citycat ferry along the river to Newfarm. Here the kids enjoyed a fantastic playground while we had a picnic lunch. After another ferry trip back to Southbank we spent some time wandering through the Museum of Brisbane. Fantastic. We also took a day trip to Ipswich. Queensland Rail has their workshops there, so of course

there was a museum. The Workshops Rail Museum was definitely worth the visit. A highlight was the Diesel train simulator. Rain came again the following night. It was so heavy that the noise was louder than our TV and we had to plug headphones in so mum and I could watch Sex in the City 2 (thanks to Yvette). Another day trip out to the coastal suburbs of Brisbane – Wynnum and Manly Harbour. We enjoyed fish and chips over looking the boats. Amidst showers we managed to pack up and move camp down to the goldcoast. We stayed for 4 nights near the theme parks and made the most of our time there. We spent a good part of the next 3 days between Dream world and Whitewater world. Mum and the kids watched Paul and I as we ventured on the Big 6 thrill rides at DW. PB got the most enjoyment at the noise I made screaming. Finn loved Wiggles world and was quite daring on several rides. Jack was a bit nervous but still managed the Bumper cars. We also had to accompany him on the train around the park several times. We managed to convince

mum into the Greenroom ride where you fly down a tunnel in a tube and land in a giant funnel. Awesome. We even went back for another turn. During the time that we were visiting the theme parks we had our camper getting new flyscreens and so stayed in a Bungalow. It was great to have a break from the camper but the boys kept opening and closing doors, standing on the furniture and climbing on the bunk beds. You’d think they were born in a tent! After picking up our bug proof camper we headed to Burleigh Heads. Paul was happy to get back in the water for some great surfing. I even had a body board. The camp was in a great location and we only had to venture across the road for a swim, a coffee or an icecream. Mum looked after the kids so we could go to dinner at the surfclub. The following night mum and I went out for dinner at a local café. Finn turned 2 the following day. We had loads of fun with presents – a new bike and toys. For lunch we had a picnic at a “pirate” playground. Finn

had requested “Donalds” (McDonalds) for dinner. We actually went to Hungry Jacks but he’ll never know. We spent the morning of mum’s last day with us at Greenmount Beach at Coolangatta. Paul had a great surf. After lunch we had a photo opportunity at the NSW boarder. It was then off to the airport to farewell Lizzy. The boys (and us) were sad to see her go but in another 7 or so weeks we’ll all be in Sydney for a family wedding. It’s off to NSW we go!
