Nundari
camp at Uncle Syd's Our first stop in NSW was the lovely country town of Murwillumbah. We picked up some supplies and headed to visit Paul’s Uncle Syd who lives in nearby Nundari. We were warmly welcomed and setup camp on their property where we had a great view across the valley. We took a day trip up into the Border Ranges National Park. The view of Mt Warning from the Pinacle was amazing, as was the scenery looking out over the Tweed Valley. We had the chance to enjoy the Murwillumbah agricultural show, complete with all the animals and of course a tractor display. We still couldnt get the kids to try fairy floss ! Heading coastal once more we travelled on a very wet day to Broken Head. Paul got the chance to get some great surfing in. We spent all our meal times fending off the bush turkeys, which were particularly game and even stole toys from the kids (thinking they were food). Our trip into nearby Byron Bay was a bit of a disappointment. Finn (for reasons we don’t know) thought it would be a good time to scream continually. The town was really busy. So with a screaming baby it

look out over Tweed valley just wasn’t much fun. We checked out Lennox Head and then moved onto Yamba. Finally we had a few days of fine weather. We were able to go for lots of walks, spent time on the beach, went fishing and of course surfing. Jack had his first surfing lesson with Paul and did really well. Yamba was lovely and we were not surprised that it was voted the most desirable town to live in Australia. We got to Coffs Harbour with the rain. The weather really makes a huge impact on your experience in a town but we were determined to get a good look around anyway. Between the showers we were able to at least have a walk out to the end of the pier and get the kids out on the cycle paths. The boys even went for a swim in the afternoon. South West Rocks, our next destination, delivered some beautiful weather and we soon forgot about the rain. The kids made a large group of new friends and were invited to attend a birthday party. They had so much fun. We took a walk around the gaol at Trial Bay and the Arakoon State Conservation Area.

Tweed Mt Warning in the background There were loads of Eastern grey Kangaroos. A few had some very cute joeys. We spent a lot of time swimming while at South West Rocks, as the days were so warm. We were also able to do some really enjoyable walks in the national parks nearby, including up to the lighthouse at Hat Head. Rain was forecast for the day we planned to leave, so we packed up early and headed off to our next camp, hoping to dodge the showers for our set up. Summer should arrive soon – we hope !
