The Gold Coast. Possibly the most touristy place in Australia; theme parks, water parks, amazing beaches. We did it all. We arrived on a Sunday and after looking around and playing mini golf we headed in to the city - Surfers Paradise. We found a small market on the sea front and strolled along it. We decided to go out for dinner that night. I had found a Groupon voucher for a place selling tapas close by. We drove there only to find the voucher had only been added that day and the system wasn’t ready. We found some where else for dinner and camped in the carpark. The next day we did the tourist thing. We had bought an all in one ticket for four attractions - Wet n Wild water park, Warner Bros ... read more

Our second Oz adventure took us along Australian's Eastern Coast from Port Douglas in the north all the way down to Sydney. What better way to kick it off than by exploring the Great Barrier Reef! We decided to go all out and treated ourselves to a luxury snorkeling and scuba diving boat trip. After all, how often does one visit the Great Barrier Reef?! The visibility was only mediocre but we did manage to spot some white tipped reef sharks and lots of beautifully colored coral and fish! The snorkelling gave some of the better views and while we were willing to plunge straight down to 18 metres for the scuba dive, we needed the comfort of noodles to aid our buoyancy on the surface!! Collecting our second campervan (Skippy) in Cairns, we navigated along ... read more

Final Entry - The End Of The Road Well, this is it! The last blog entry for our, almost two year, trek around Oz. After leaving Adelaide we travelled through the towns along the Murray River. We made visits to Mannum, Walkers Flat, Renmark, Blanchetown and Echuca. Once again the weather was kind to us and the “Mighty Murray” was great to see. The “PS Murray Princess” was in dock at Mannum and was a magic sight. PS standing for “Paddle Steamer”. We took a trip up the river at Echuca, where the Murray is significantly narrower and dirtier than at Renmark. Nevertheless we ticked yet another box. From Echuca we headed for Bendigo where we caught up with my sister Jean’s son Steven. He was recovering from a serious back injury after being thrown from ... read more

Here we go again….. Well, we’ve been on the Gold Coast now for almost three months and it’s time for us to head of on our travels again. We are due to be on Phillip Island by 22nd December for our family Xmas with Pete, Laura and the two families. Everyone will converge for a few days of Christmas cheer and I’ve no doubt there will be a bit of rivalry between the Aussies and Kiwis, not to mention the odd Pom??? We have had a great time here and enjoyed being near our family and friends again. The stays in the van by our lovely grand children have been special as was the “posh dinner” at Omeros Brothers with our oldest granddaughter, Tiarne (15!!). We’ve been lucky enough to celebrate Ellie’s birthday, Melbourne Cup day ... read more

Currumbin Valley is BLISS. Ellie and I are well and truly settled into Currumbin Valley Eco-Village and absolutely loving the homestay with our host family. Ellie has a new bestfriend in five year old Pia (perhaps the other way round) and I am getting the garden well and truly in order. The Eco-Village has a great community spirit and we are being made to feel very welcome. The garden has plenty going on (it was horrendously overgrown) and has plenty of banana trees which are producing bunch after bunch. The other day I took off 5 bunches and am currently the envy of the rest of the village as other gardens seem to be only yielding one or two every few months. I said to the owner here, Rob, that he should set up a stall ... read more

Last Saturday morning we decided to change our travel plans, ie, going to Europe instead of the Middle-East, it just doesn't seem to be the time going there at the moment with all the turmoil going on. We're now hiring a campervan in Duesseldorf for 10 weeks, driving to Spain and Portugal. Then flying from Duesseldorf to Rhodes to backpack around the Greek Islands for a couple of months as we originally had planned. Finally, we're having a month in Denmark to catch up with family and friends. Tuesday, March 1 at 2.40 we're flying out of Brisbane to Singapore, where we'll have a couple of nights before heading north to the cold! We'll keep you posted. ... read more

On the sunshine coast there were too many choices in towns to stop. After chatting to some local people in Noosa, we settled on the town of Caloundra and set up camp at Dicky Beach We enjoyed a couple of days with fine weather which allowed us to soak up some sun and check out the local playground and café strip. Most importantly PB got some surfing. Mum (Liz) flew into Brisbane and caught the shuttle up to join us for a bit of our journey. Unfortunately the rain arrived with her. The boys were eager to show off to Nanna their swimming skills and bravely swam in the freezing pool. We left Caloundra and the rain and headed to Brisbane. We caught the bus to Southbank and enjoyed some sunshine and a coffee overlooking the ... read more

Today the real trip has begun. We left the Gold Coast and headed north about 7 weeks ago, on what now feels like a trial run. The weather was not warm enough to head south, so we spent a few weeks going north to Cairns first, then back down to the Gold Coast again. But now the big trip has started. The Big Lap. Tripping clockwise around Australia towing a caravan.... read more
