13/3 The greyhound to Rainbow beach was about three hours long so we were there by half 1. Me and Kennedy were in different hostels because we are going to Fraser Island with different companies. Me and one of my roommates went for a walk to the beach and then to have a look at the very small town. I had to go to a meeting at the hostel bar all about Fraser and driving 4x4s. We got put into groups of 8 which is the groups we share a car with and cook with. Once the meeting was over I had to pack a small bag to take with me for the weekend and pack everything else away. I went to the bar for a few drinks and bumped into a group of guys who I've seen at a few places already which was nice.
14/3 I got up at 6 this morning to shower and be checked out by 7. We all had free pancakes for breakfast and then got the cars ready to go over to Fraser Island. Gemma drove our car first. Before we even got to the ferry one of the cars got stuck in
the sand; luckily it wasn't us. When we got over to the island we drove along the beach for about two hours which was so much fun. I got to sit in the front so had the best view. We had our music playing, windows down and it was just so cool. We stopped at a campsite for lunch where we made ourselves wraps. This afternoon we went to Lake McKenzie which was so beautiful! It was a lake surrounded by forest and the sand was almost pure silicon so it was so white. The shallow water was turquoise so it looked like a beach you see on adverts for holidays in the Maldives or something. I had never seen anything like it! We went swimming in the lake and because the sand is so pure you can exfoliate yourself with it so we did that and my skin did actually feel really soft afterwards. We drove to our campsite then where our tents were already set up for us. It was two in a tent so me and Gemma went together and Shane and Felicitas went opposite us. For dinner we had rice with chicken stir-fry which we had
to cook for ourselves. There was only two hobs for four groups so we had to wait ages to cook and then the rice took a long time to boil but when it was eventually ready it was really nice. We all sat around the camp drinking and talking and then we went to the campfire for a while which was nice. 15/3 We had to get up at half 7 to be ready to leave by 9. We cooked scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast which was so good. I drove the car this morning which was quite easy along the beach and was so much fun. However when we went onto soft sand it was so hard to keep control of the car because the steering wheel kept turning by itself so I got the car stuck in the sand. After 5 minutes of reversing and trying to go forward I eventually got us unstuck thankfully. Our first stop was a place called Champagne pools which was like a giant rock pool. You can't swim in the sea because there's a lot of jelly fish and sharks but this is the only place where you can swim in
sea water on the island because it is sectioned off by rocks. We then walked to the top of a hill where we had a really good view of the beaches and the sand dunes which was so pretty. After lunch we swapped cars and went into the Lead car where our tour guide drives so other people could have a go at driving. We went to Eli Creek which was like a natural lazy river which is thought was so amazing! We led on our backs and floated down the river into the creek over and over again because it was so fun. I'm completely amazed that all these places are 100%!n(MISSING)atural! On our drive back to the campsite we stopped at a shipwreck where our tour guide Jimmy told us some facts about the ship and how it got there.
Dinner this evening was steak and potato salad which I mainly cooked which I enjoyed. The potato salad I made was so tasty if I do say so myself. A few people from another group commented on how I seemed to be the chef of the group which was really cute. It was Maddie's birthday so we had cake
and then played drinking games for a while. We went down to the beach to see the stars which were absolutely breathtaking! I have never seen a sky like that in my life. We could see a Milky Way and what looked like a black hole. It was so beautiful. At the campsite there was a little wooden shack where people could play their music and everyone danced like being in a little club which was so funny. After going there for a bit we went back to the beach to admire the sky again. It was such a good evening.
16/3 We packed up and left the campsite by half 8 and made our way to another lake. It was a 45 minute walk to the lake but it was worth the walk. It was a lake with forest on one side and desert on the other which was so surreal. In the lake was lots of little catfish that nibbled me like the fish you get to nibble your feet at pedicures. When we walked back to the cars we had lunch and then made our way back to the ferry. We had all had about 4/5
hours sleep so were so tired. Me and Shane were sat in the front and kept falling asleep but then waking up every time we went over a bump which was so annoying. As soon as we got back to the hostel I had a nap and then a well needed shower. The hostel did Spag Bol for $6 so me and Gemma got that for dinner and it was so good. Everyone from my group was at the bar so we had drinks together and watched karaoke. Jimmy our tour guide came to the hostel bar too and bought a load of jugs of 'Dingo Juice' (goon and juice) for everyone. It was such a lovely way to end our trip. Fraser Island is definitely the best place I've been to so far.
