18/3 Yesterday was a boring day. I checked out at 9:30 and had to hang around until 13:00 for the bus. As Kennedy wasn't in my hostel at Rainbow beach we didn't even wait around together. We then had a six hour bus journey to Agnes Water/ 1770 (two tiny towns next to each other so people use both names). The hostel we stayed at was really cool so we were a bit gutted we only stayed one night but there wasn't that much in the town to do. Today we did a tour called Scooter Roo which was basically s big convoy of backpackers riding motorbikes and looking at kangaroos. They gave us leather jackets and stick on tattoos which was so funny. We had to practise riding the bikes on a small track first which was good because I didn't realise how hard it was to ride a motorbike. At first I kept going in all directions and losing my balance when stopping but I soon got the hang of it and it was fun. We were riding around for about 2/3 hours. We stopped at 1770 harbour which is really pretty and also a pretty big landmark because
it's where Captain Cook first landed in Australia. While riding the bike I got up to 70 mph on a few occasions which at first scared me a bit but then I relaxed and it was so fun. When we got back to the hostel we had crepes because the hostel chef was selling them for $3. It had banana, apple, maple syrup, caramel sauce, ice cream and cinnamon in it which seemed like way too many things but it actually tastes so good. We had to get an overnight Greyhound bus so it left 1770 at 9:45.
19/3 we arrived in Airlie Beach at 7am this morning. I had surprisingly a really good nights sleep because I took travel sickness tablets to make me drowsy and took my towels on the coach to use as a pillow. Kennedy on the other hand said she had the worst nights sleep ever because she was cold and uncomfortable so she wasn't in the best of moods when we arrived. We then discovered that unlike all the other hostels along the East Coast there was no shuttle bus to the hostel so we had to walk. A ten minute walk when your tired and in the boiling sun is hard enough but doing it with two rucksacks and a freezer bag of a food was not fun. Our long and painful journey was then made even worse because we got to the hostel at 7:30 and we couldn't check in until 11:30 at the earliest but it could be anytime from then until 13:00. We went out for breakfast which cheered us up a bit but then we still sat in reception for hours because we both just felt so disgusting and hot we needed a shower desperately. As soon as we could check in we had showers and got changed and then we were ready to go and have a look around. Firstly we went to the offices for the Whitsunday boats we're going on to check in which got us so excited! We had a look around the town and then had some lunch. We went back to the hostel and just chilled in our air-conned rooms because it was so hot. We planned to have a nap but we just ended up talking for hours and then somebody came into our room and told us the hostel were having a movie night so we got up for that. We went to the bar to get a drink in happy hour and wait for the movie. After about two hours of waiting somebody packed away all the chairs facing the screen so they must have decided not to show it which was so annoying. I was really looking forward to having a movie night- can't remember the last time I had one. 20/3 Today we went to the lagoon which was really nice. It was just a giant swimming pool but there was no sand when you get out of the water which was a nice change because I'm usually covered in sand. Once we got too hot we got some lunch: $5 pizza from dominoes. Dominos pizza is so cheap I'm going to definitely put on weight- it's £3 for a full size dominoes pizza which is madness! We chilled at the hostel again for a while so I spent an hour or so reading my book until I finished it because it was such a good book. We napped for a bit as well which is crazy because I've had plenty of sleep but it's so hot up here it's tiring I think. I've noticed that the humidity has increased drastically from 1770 to here and it's only going to get worse the further north I go. Me and Kennedy walked down to the harbour to find where our boats go in the morning. Me managed to coincidentally be there as the sun was setting which was really pretty. I had a shower when we got back and then went to the bar to wait for Kennedy because she was skyping her boyfriend to break up with him! Once she was done we started drinking and ended up going out with some Canadian girls we met who were really nice. I saw Fliss for a bit too which was nice because I hadn't seen her since Surfers Paradise.
