Another lazy day at Voyages Silky Oaks after a leisurely breakfast a wonderful relaxing Kodo Massage inspired by Australian Aboriginal philosophy and incorporates smooth circular massage techniques and pressure point theraphy Native aromatic oils combine to calm the mind and bring harmony to the body Work what is that?!! Now 2 weeks into my adventure and it seems to be racing by Lovely to relax here and take in the Rain Forest Went for a lovely walk to Melaleuca Island along the Mossman River 30minutes from my Fig Tree Tree House then a spot of lunch before another trek to Fig Tree Rapids about a 2 hour return trip I saw a large Hickory Ash tree and a Scrub Turkey nest and many Bird Nest Fens and Sticky Bean Trees I did not see anyone along the trail and had a great swim in the swim hole at the rapids all on my own fantastic There were great views of Mount Demi the highest peak in the area. Then the heavens opened and I got drenched on the way back, but after all this is the rain forest and soon enough it is sunny again Going on a Night walk this
evening with a guide to hopefully to spot some possum will let you know how I get on!
Well that was a really exciting night walk we saw a Bandicoot (like a rat but a marsupial) and a cute striped Possum feeding in a tree very nosily and best of all an Amethystine Python, top of the food chain, in the forest. In fact one of our party nearly trod on it that was quite exciting! At one point in the forest we turned off our torches and it is so dark you cannot see your own hand in front of your face. To finish off our walk we saw a huntsman spider too What a great evening!
An early start in the morning back to Cairns, about an hour and a half by car. I have booked a half day trip to Barrow River for a spot of White Water Rafting looking forward to that experience too!! Night night
