Hello all!!! Well - finally back in "civilisation". Have not had any mobile or email 'service' since my last entry - hence there hasn't been one till now. From Boulia, we travelled to Bedourie - another little place in the middle of nowhere but you have to go through to actually get to somewhere!. Spent 2 nights there in the 'caravan park' - first night $22, second night half price!!! They have quite a large aquatic centre fed by the hot artesian bore there - it's free but you have to put down a $29 deposit on the key into the place - whicvh you pay and collect from the pub. This is a total ruse of course - 'cause when you go back to collect your deposit (of course) you have to have a couple ... read more

Left home and destination Molong. Well we finally got on the road at 9.50 a.m. leaving the cold and rain at home. We had a few minor mishaps for our first day, but shit happens. Not even 5 mins into our journey warwick was adjusting the brakes and due to that I spilt my coffee all over my ¾ white pants, then when we got to Mt Ousley warwick couldn’t remember shutting the garage door, so I rang glen and Leanne to check we expected Glen to give us a ribbing about that when we get home if he remembers. Then just over an hour I had a hypo, so out came the lollies and soft drink. We stopped at Lithgow for lunch then stopped for fuel at Lithgow which was 165.9c and used 38 ... read more

Left Molong around 9.40 a.m.called at Dubbo for parts we needed for the water tank, cost $6 with plumber tape. That was a bit of relief instead of buying a new tank. The Cosmos Centre by day was much more exciting with heaps of interactive fun. We learnt that we are very very small in the universe and even got to hold a meteorite. That night we went to see the bilbies. These cute little fellows are an endangered species because of the feral cats and foxes so the Bilby Centre in Charleville was set up to raise money to save the Bilby by two men. Peter and Frank spend there life saving Bilbies and raised enough money to build a 5km square fence in outback QLD to protect the Bilby and let them grow in numbers. We saw a Video of an episode of Australian Story that told the two mens story and then went outside in the dark to see some Bilbies in a cage. Samuel got ... read more

We spent the day relaxing at Evening Star and Samuel got a taste of life on an outback cattle station, feeding the calves, ducks and chickens and riding around with Peter the caretaker on the quad bike. At 9pm we ventured into town to the Cosmos Centre for some stargazing but sadly it was one of those rare nights were the cloud came over so all we got to see through the telescope was the moon and one star. So home we went and decided to return tomorrow to visit the interactive centre in the daytime ... read more

From Roma we made our way west to Mitchell, passed through a little town called Muckadilla that only had a pub and a general store, outside the pub there were two seats one had written on it the “Seat of Knowledge” and the other the “Bench of Bullshit”. We didn’t stop to take a photo cause this town was that small there was nowhere big enough to park the van. Then we rolled into Mitchell to check out the Artesian Spa. Driving further west to Morven for lunch. We stopped at this little museum on the highway and the kids mucked around on the old steam engine and explored a hut made of old fuel tins. Early in the afternoon we arrived in Charleville and decided to head to a local cattle station 10 km out ... read more

The road to Dalby from Murwillumbah is standard expressway for most of the distance. Only after Toowoomba does it start to get interesting. The early part of the journey goes via the Gold Coast, a much over-rated tourist region of high-rise hotels and enormous houses on artificial canals created by real estate developers in order to separate Victorian retirees from their money (for the geographically challenged, Victoria is a southern state of Australia). Shortly before reaching Brisbane, the road west turns off from the main highway and starts to meander its way across the Brisbane basin towards the Darling Downs. As British people know, all true Downs are really up. Toowoomba, at the edge of the Darling Downs, is 400 metres straight up from the Lockyer Valley. It is the last major town before the road ... read more

June 29, Monday. The wheels are fine; I got rid of all the dried mud that went solid inside the rims. Left Windorah about 10:00 this morning and it was a day of driving on sealed roads. Not much to see along the way although I did cross six miles of Cooper River Channels. It took a 462-kilometre drive to arrive in Charleville around 4:00 in the afternoon. Booked a caravan for the night. My gas stove is not working very well. Takes ages to cook the food but I don’t think I’ll worry about it though. Went to the pub and phoned the children. Weather cold. ... read more
