Cronulla Beach
This is where Nadine and I went Surfing, it was great because we had the beach all to ourselves. Hello from Cairns (pronounced cans). I decided to get out of Sydney for the next month. I flew to Cairns this morning, leaving the chilly Sydney weather behind. I guess Thursday they had their coldest day recorded in history for the past 100 years. It is really warm in Cairns and very humid. You want hott weather head north. By the time I get to Sydney for Christmas, it will be just as hot there. Tomorrow I start a 5 day scuba course. It is two days of instruction, class room lessons and pool lessons. Then I do 4 dives to get my PADI certification. On Wednesday I go out on a boat over the Great Barrier Reef for the next 3 days (actually staying on the boat). Where I do 5 more dives off the back of the boat!! I am so excited!!! Then I think I'll head up to Cape Tribulations and spend a night up there. It is pretty much the farthest point you can go that they will allow you with a regular vehicle. Then I make my way back down to the Whitsunday Islands, Fraser Island, Brisbane and then Byron Bay. I fly out of Byron
The Surf Group
Consisted of 4 Canadians, one German, 2 Americans, and one Irish, and of course Surfer Wayne. Bay on the 22nd of December, back in Sydney for Christmas.
Sydney is so beautiful I really enjoyed my time there and glad I will be heading back for Christmas. I made some great friends at the hostel I was staying at. Most of us are coming back to Sydney for Christmas so we will meet up then, we all have cell phones so its easy to keep in touch. I tried surfing! It was really hard and I definately have some wounds from it, but so much fun. Our instructor Wayne was a typical surfer, the lingo, look, everything. It was a whole day of surfing and everyone was able to stand up. I even rode out a few waves. By the afternoon it was really windy and the waves were huge! I never though that on my first day of surfing I would be tackling waves like that! You couldn't even really get up because there was another wave right behind it. It was still fun just to lay on the board though. Oh and I can't get over how salty the ocean is. I knew it was salty but my god!!!
I have been out
Nadine and I
Nadine has become a really good friend. When I left Sydney, she hooked up with an Aussie and I haven't seen her for the past two days, don't worry, I have talked to her on the phone...is she is in love? a few times in Sydney to party. It is a pretty happening place. Most bars or clubs are open till 6 am and there are a handful that are open 24 hours. Kings Cross where I stayed - almost all were open 24 hours. It's amazing the amount of people out on the street at 4:30 in the morning! On Friday a group of us went on a pub crawl, some how I got put in charge of this pub crawl, looking after 7 drunken germans is pretty funny. There was also my friend Brian (Canadian) and an American with us. Ok I'll front this Fun Train! The real organizers of the pub crawl kept asking me if I wanted a job. No thanks, at least not right now. (Although if I keep spending money like I did in Sydney, I will need a job!) We ended up at the biggest club in Sydney and it was definately my type of music. It was great to get out of Kings Cross for a night and see real night life, not just strip clubs.
And I still haven't been to the beach! Well besides the surf lesson. I haven't been
to Bondi or Manley yet which are two of Sydney's biggest beaches. I really just took the last week to chill and relax.
I have tried the vegemite. That was probably the worst thing I have ever ate, the WORST!!! It was so salty, worse then the sea (hmmm maybe that is why Aussie's like it!) I have fallen in love with TimTams. They are a chocolate biscuit, I just can't describe it, you just have to eat one and you'll know. I have already sent some back home and plan on sending way more. Some other things that I found in Australia that I love....sweet chilli sauce! Can we get this back home, if not someone let me know because I am buying a case to send back. It is awesome on french fries or potatoe wedges or even mashed potatoes. I am also addicted to this shop called Pie Face. They sell baked pies, not fruit pies, but pies with meat, steak and cheese or ham and egg that sort of thing. Each pie has an actual face on it. You also can't get a regular cup of coffee here, not even at McDonalds (maybe somewhere but
The Pub Crawl Krew
The group that went on the pub crawl, last Friday in Sydney. I have to see it). Coffee here are lattes- which I dont' mind as that is what I like. Also milkeshakes or smoothies here are not thick at all, they are just like milk. Oh and donuts are crazy expensive, like $8 for 4 Krispy Kreme donuts.
Well talking about all this food has made me hungry, I should get going and my laundry is probably done. I hope everyone is staying warm back home, I'll try to send some hot weather your way!
