OMG Where do I start!!!! Victoria was awesome! I had so much fun there! I love that city and it is so tempting to take up shop there when I come back to Canada. The weather was rainy for the most part but still warm outside. Wednesday I took the ferry into Vancouver where my friend Melanie picked me up. That night, we went for Steak! YUM! Last meal in Canada of course it has to be steak!!! The next morning I left for Sydney, or rather Taipei. Decked out in LuLu Lemon clothes, I looked more like I was going to the gym rather then some hott destination! My stomach was doing small flip flops and I was a bit jittery but hey, that is what excitement (with a touch of nervousness) will do to a girl. The plane was not very full and I ended up having a row of seats to myself which was nice. I was able to stretch out and get some sleep. I had a 13 hour flight to Taipei, which surprisingly enough, didn’t feel like that at all. I had a drink on the plane, my usual Rye (or rather Whiskey) and ginger. I

I have the top bunk on the left. Messy!! can tell you right now, I miss Canadian Rye (feel free to send my Gibsons!). When we landed in Taipei, I met a guy (Nathan) that was on my plane going to Sydney as well. So we hung out for our lay over there. It was 7 hours, but it felt like a stones age. The next flight from Taipei to Sydney was 9 hours long. Nathan and I sat together for this flight. It was a smaller plane and hardly any leg room or seating room. I tried sleeping most of the way to Sydney, but it was hard because it was so cramp. The food was not very great on the flights either, let me tell you I am sick of RICE! Rice for lunch, rice for dinner, rice for BREAKFAST! When we landed in Sydney it was 25 above. Ahhh warmth!!! Better then the rainy or snowy weather I came from! It was sunny skies all around. I got on the train from the airport to Kings Cross and found my hostel right away. Kings Cross is very different then I thought. More transient. Lots of stripper clubs and sex shops, and flashing lights! And hookers on
the street. Don’t worry Mom it is safe! There are always people out and about on the streets. Most of the hostels in Sydney are in this area. The hostel is awesome! Everyone there is so friendly andd staff is very helpful. I am finding that more people are traveling on their own rather then with a friend. There are two Canadians staying in the same hostel as myself. One of them actually works for the hostel. His name is Skeeter. He is from Northern B.C.. The other is Brian from Toronto. Skeeter was so funny. He took us out to a drag show on Sunday night. Man those chics were not so hott! My first night out and I go to a gay bar to see a drag show! LOL! The music was awesome in there! Jenn M….you would have loved it! Every time a Canadian artist came over the dj system, Skeeter and I would shout! He started laughing at me because I used “eh” a lot! LOL! He said you won’t really realize how much you miss that until you here it. The Canadian bond holds strong! My dorm room is a co-ed room. There are 3
boys and 3 girls in it. All from Germany except myself and another girl, from the UK. Today dormmates, Nadine and Martin (Germans) and I did some chumming around. We set up our bank accounts and got cell phones. It was good that I was with them as Martin’s English is not very good. Nadine’s is a bit better but still needed some help. I wish I could remember my German. I can say I love you, I want a beer and I count but that is it. I can’t remember anything else. But I guess, I know the important things. I also found a Roxy store (surf/skater store)! Why can’t we have these shops in Calgary!!! Tonight the three of us are going to the Aquarium, if it is not to late. Yesterday I toured out by myself. I walked from the hostel in Kings Cross to the Opera House, stopping in at the Botanical Gardens and then from there around the Ferries to The Rocks. The Opera House is amazing. You don’t realize how huge it is and the significance of it until you actually see it up close and go inside. It took 14 years to build and the organ in it has over 10,000 pipes! It is the largest of its kind. The Rocks is an area of town, an older area, maybe it was the first part of Sydney, I can’t quite remember. It has cobble stone streets, fun cafes, and boutiques and yesterday they had a market. I found the best store ever there, a Rip Curl store (another surf/skater store)! I was in heaven!!! Luckily I escaped from there, without actually buying anything, although I am definitely going back before I leave Sydney. I still have to buy myself a beach towel and also some new bikinis. I haven’t been to the beach yet but I plan on getting there before the end of the week. I did sunburn my shoulders yesterday so I need to wait till that goes away. I love Sydney but I am finding it very expensive. Mind you I don’t know if this is the prices everywhere in Australia. Yesterday I went to the grocery store to get a few things. It is fun going through the isles to see the different things they have here. I stayed away from buying the Vegemite, but I will one day, just to try it. I think I will stay in Sydney until the 26 and then move out to go to the Blue Mountains and around the area. I have a hostel booked for Christmas in Sydney, but I am not sure I want to come back here once I leave. I haven’t seen any disgusting bugs, spiders or snakes yet. I hope I don’t see too many. I notice that everyone here says “Heaps” a lot. I am feeling so good about being here and so excited!!! I love how I can do what I want when I want. Go any where I want with out having to wait for anyone or worry that someone else doesn’t want to do it. Life is good! And this is only the beginning!

good to see you're enjoying the lovely antipodean isles, just wait til you get to NZ though, then you'll never leave.
