Edit Blog Post
Okay so we are here again 3 weeks on since I last wrote and I am sat here racking my brains to try and remember what we have done the last 3 weeks!
I have been meaning to update the blog just about every night but never managed to get round to it so here we are on a depressing rainy (yes rainy) Sunday afternoon and thought should get round to it!
So week 7 was really exciting because we spent the week looking forward to my sister, Suzanne, and her friend and Liz arriving from England, and also it was easter weekend so that meant 4 whole days off work coz of Good Friday and Easter Monday, and even though that meant no pay coz we are only temps it didn’t matter at all. Any day off work is good no matter whether you get paid or not!! So a really good 4 day week and on Thursday night drinks after work, they go out all the time which is really good, it reminds me of the CIS call Centre 10 years ago when we partied all the time, although me and Steve struggle to keep up now!
Friday and Saturday Steve and I spent the day in Brisbane just lazing on the beach and stuff coz we had great plans for spending a fun packed 2 days on Sunday and Monday with Suz and Liz. They set off on Friday night UK time and were due to arrive Sunday morning Aussie time. So we tracked their progress from Manchester to London and although there was a slight delay, nothing to worry about as they made their flight from London no problem….or at least we thought. At around midday (our time) on the Saturday when they should have been about 5 hours into their flight, we get a call from Suzanne…imagine our shock!!! It only turns out they had just landed back at Heathrow airport……WHAT I hear you say, yes they took off 3 hours late and then an engine blew on the plane just after take off (how bloody scary) and so they had to land but only after spending an hour dumping fuel whilst circling heathrow…not my idea of enjoyment and certainly not theirs. So when Suz rang me they were just collecting their baggage (or at least Liz was), turns out Suzanne’s backpack had
not even made it onto the plane with them. So they were put up in a hotel for the night, about an hour outside Heathrow, and ended up with a 24 hour delay until they could get them on another flight the next day.
So, knowing they wearnt going to arrive for another 24 hours, Steve and I decided we couldn’t hang around Brisbane another day and decided to book ourselves tickets for Sea World which is on the Gold Coast. They are doing a half price deal for locals at the moment (get that, we count as locals coz we have a Queensland postcode). So Sunday we spent a really good day at SeaWorld, it was amazing, almost as good as SeaWorld in Florida and definitely worth a visit. We saw a brilliant Dolphin show and water skiing show and were like giddy kids on the roller coasters and the Pirate Ship (although I had forgotten just how scary the Pirate Ship is and we thought we were being clever sitting right at the back, I just wanted it to stop!!!
So after regular updates between Suzanne and home, where Mum and Catherine were frantically worrying about
them both, Monday morning arrived and they finally landed in Australia. They then missed their connection from Sydney to Brisbane but managed to catch another plane about 2 hours later. So all was well and we collected them from Brisbane airport at around 10.30 am.. It was so good to see them both. Although Suzanne had been assured her bag was on the flight it turned out they had just blatently lied to her in London and even though they had 24 hours to get the bag to the right plane they didn’t even manage that so she was bagless. How many things can go wrong!!!!!!!
Anyway, they arrived and so to keep them both awake Steve trekked them round Brisbane City for a few hours showing them the sights. We gave them as much useful info as we possibly could and only later did they admit that they probably hadn’t taken anything in. So we let them sleep for an hour at around 5ish coz they were both flagging by then. I think they did well to make it till then coz me and Steve would probably have been asleep straight away and we suffered really badly in
Cork screw
Steve braves the cork screw at the front!!!!!!!! Tokyo with jetlag.
We had booked a vietnamise restaurant on Monday night, Chi Chis Po, which is in Highgate Hill just round the corner, We had seen it a couple of times but then we read a review in the Brisbane City magazine which sold it to us and it didn’t disappoint at all. The food was amazing. We had a banquet between the 4 of us and it worked out about £10 per head. It was also BYO and they only charged 3 dollars (£1.50) for corkage - bargain.
