Another week gone, or has it been 2? Kind of losing track of time, one week seems to blend into the next around here... Brett is still working hard on the skatepark 6 days a week, trying to get it done. There is a ways to go yet though, but they are making great progress. The weather has been the same, 26-27 degrees and sunny, with some wind some days. Think we have only had one cloudy day so far since we have been here, so we are definately not complaining. It is a great spot to be for the winter! I have been doing some freelance work still, some weeks not as much, and some weeks a bit more, and been doing a few other things to keep busy while Brett works and enjoying the ... read more

Not a lot to write about this week, we have been doing more of the same. Weather has been fabulous, still around 27 degrees with a breeze most days to keep the skies clear - and we learnt the locals call it 'Blowin' Bowen' for this reason. Brett's been working hard on the skatepark but we did manage to sneak in a nice day at the beach on his day off, the water temperature is so nice, it was a great day. We also went to the Sunday Market to pick up our fruit and veggies direct from the farmer for the week, and have a fresh Bowen mango sorbet, which had to be the best sorbet we have ever had! We also went to a Seafood Buffet at the local Golf Club, which was so ... read more

Since Brett had 2 days off this weekend, we took a trip down to Airlie Beach on Saturday for a little look around. Last time we had been there was in November 2007 when my brother Dennis and Maggie were here. (Was it that long ago??!!). It was a beautiful day, about 28 degrees, but nowhere near as humid as it had been in November, since we are now at the tail end of Autumn, and November is the end of Spring. It still takes us a bit to remember June, July and August are winter here. We did a bit of looking around and drove out to Shute Harbour where alot of the boats leave from for the Whitsunday Island cruises, and picked out a few nice boats and a few amazing houses up on ... read more

Time again to hit the road, and we packed up not really wanting to leave Byron. But we will be back, as we usually are.... We have booked in (for a while...) starting in September, before we make our trip back to Vancouver for almost 6 weeks on Novemeber 30th. Can't wait for that! Will be great to see everyone and get some snowboarding in. We did the drive up to Bowen in 2 days, the first day was a bit long, it took us about 11 hours to get to Rockhampton as there were a few accidents and traffic getting through Brisbane, so we were a bit tired that night. And we somehow ended up at The Sizzler for dinner, it totally felt like we were in an early 1990's time warp somewhere in the ... read more

Days 52=54: Shute Harbor (no travel), Bowen (46 miles) Started very early (1am) to take advantage ofthe last couple of hours of the north going ebb current (strong in this area). Aided by moderate SEerlies, I decided to go all the way into Bowen. Think I'll take another day off and wonder about town. (BTW, I did get my package in Shute Harbor (Airlie Beach). Once I'm off from here, I'll be in the 'wild' for several days. No TOWNS until, you guessed it TOWNSville. ... read more

After a visit to the giant mango we arrived at our hosts place at Brisk Bay (just outside of Bowen). Noel and Kate (HC) were great hosts with a fantastic home on the waterfront. After going for a wander along the beach we enjoyed a lovely meal and a chat for the night! To prove how small a world it is it turns out after a little bit of namedropping, Noel & Kate were the couple to purchase my brother Michael’s house on the Sunshine Coast! ... read more

Well the time has finally come for me to set off on my new adventure. It's been a long time coming. Lots of planning, booking, packing, selling furniture, my car etc. Add to that the usual craziness that comes at the end of a school year and Christmas time and you can understand how busy I've been. I'm sure I've no doubt forgotten to do something, or say goodbye to someone...so sorry if that's the case...but oh well...life goes on. I spent the week after work finished packing up and moving out of my lovely 'teacher's flat' in West St, Bowen. It was then time to load up both my car and my flatmate's and head off to my parent's place in Haliday Bay, Mackay, where I had the fun task of trying to fit all ... read more

Day 258 (10.12.07) Before we left for the next stage of our road trip we went for a walk down the lovely, palm fringed Mission Beach and went for an early morning swim in the stinger net. Today was mainly about getting most of the way down to our next major stop at Airlie beach so we did a whole lot of driving whilst soaking up the views of the surrounding acres of sugar cane plantations. We made our usual swimming stop around midday. This time we picked the beautiful Paradise Waterhole in the Big Crystal Creek section of the Paluma Ranges National Park. It was a very picturesque spot and we made the most of the clear, cool water before having a picnic and setting off again with just a quick stop to buy some ... read more
