We got picked up from our hostels at 6.40am, the tour guide was mark and not long after we set off towards kadaku the majority of us fell asleep. The first stop was at alligator river, where we had a boat tour along the river, spotting birds and crocs as we went.We then got back into the bus and continued towards kadaku.
The next stop was the kadaku information centre.the information was interesting but could have had more information on aboriginal culture in my opinion. We only had a short time before we needed to get back on the bus.
After a while we stopped for lunch, which were self service sandwiches had in picnic benches.
We finally got to a part of kadaku with cave paintings. One was a warning against marrying someone who has the same skin name as you. We followed the pathway up to a viewing point were the aboriginal people belive the lightning God had left his eye to spot clouds to hit creating lightning, whilst he is out hunting. It can only be viewed from a distance as it is believed that terrible things will happen if you go there, even aircraft are not allowed
to fly over the rock formation.
We then headed to the camping site, sorted or where to sleep before heading to watch the sun set over a part of the river. We then decided to Walk back to the camp site through a lovely walk, however it was closed due to the wet season only just finishing. So ended up walking along the road. Once back we headed to the pool for a swim before dinner. After dinner we went out to the airport in the site and turned off all the lights so we could see the stars. They looked so clear and close that we even saw shooting stars.
The next morning we were up at 6.30am and after breakfast we tidied up the tents and camp site before heading off in the bus. The first stop was Gulum falls, which was a lovely Waterfall where at the top there are some pools of water that you can swim in. So after a steep and tricky climb that left me bearthless we reached the pools. We quickly hopped in to cool ourselves down from the trek up! I managed to get really close to the edge to get
some pictures before doing even more swimming. The climb down was harder than the climb up, we even ended up going the wrong way for a short while.
After a while driving we stopped for lunch, which was a BBQ followed by an ice cream. After packing up again we set off for our next camp site, which was at a cattle station. Again we sorted out our tents for the night before heading to the pool for a swim!
We started up a campfire while mark cooked or dinner. It was a lovely warm night.
We set out for Litchfield after breakfast, the first stop being termite mounds, both cathedral and magnetic were at the site. The cathedral ones were approximately 50years old as 1 meter = 10 years!! The magnetic mounds looked like a grave yard.
The next stop was Burley rock hole. This was found after a short walk through the greenery. The pools were deep enough to allow for diving and bombing although I just paddled in the shallow following water.
The next stop was 2 waterfalls that followed into a large lake. One Waterfall was really small whilst the other was huge. In small groups
we swam out to the large Waterfall. The water got really deep nearer the falls. There were warm and cool patches. Once we reached the water fall we swam back to the shallower water as the threat of Crocs was playing on our minds. Due to the wet season water levels were higher allowing the crocs to get further in land. After 30 min swimming we headed to the picnic area for lunch of wraps and fresh fruit.
The next stop was a Waterfall that was found down in the bottom of the surrounding hills. We climbed down 135 steps to get to the Waterfall. It was incredibly beautiful there. I paddled for a while before heading back via a walk through the greenery. As we criss crossed the water the greenery changed to yellowed dry plants. The change was very dramatic.
Once back in darwin we checked into youth shack and headed to coles for tomorrows breakfast and snacks for the journey to Alice Springs. Before getting ready to go out. That evening was the first time I wore make up since getting into Oz! We had a lovely meal at monsoon followed by crab fish racing. The first
round our crab fish won, getting us a pitcher of beer. In the next few rounds we didn't do too well, however in the final our winning crab won again! There were also other prizes up for grabs if you could answer the questions. I won $20 whitsundays sailing vouchers and a shot.for knowing that 2 was a prime number and even! As we danced into the evening live music started up. It was a wonderful end to an awesome tour.
