We’re at the turn off to Uluru (Ayers Rock) along the main highway between Adelaide and Darwin (200 kms south of Alice Springs). Odometer clocked 6000 kms today. Hard to believe the road we’ve been on for the last 6 days was only finished being paved 20 years ago. Uluru, a major milestone on our adventure, is just 250 kms (a day’s ride) west of here. It feels a little like we’ve been at sea this week. Some times in all directions there has been nothing but flatness and sky. Australia really is a big place! As we had hoped, our adventure has become easier and more enjoyable as we’ve grown use to our bikes and our own limitations (like sore arms, backs, legs, necks and bums), though yesterday we both admitted having daylight nightmares of seeing the other sliding on gravel or getting sucked into truck coming the other way. Although this trip has been brilliant; exciting, educational and just plain fun, I don’t think the fear of riding a bike will ever go away entirely.
