The week started with my BIRTHDAAAAAY!!! It was weird being away from home and not having the usual build up to it! Alex sang me happy birthday in the morning and then we got ready to go and meet our friends Matthew and Josh (from Airlie Beach) to have a birthday picnic. We went to buy picnic food, but apparently that's a British thing because they didn't have any of the usual stuff but we improvised! Then we walked to the Botanical Gardens and sat opposite the opera house for it. They had bought me a birthday hat and cupcake and some sparklers for it... But we couldn't get the sparkler to light. Matthew asked about 5 people for lighters but it was quite windy -although one couple tried for about 10 minutes to light it, which was sweet! We had just finished at about 3 and headed back because a storm was due! I had my first hot birthday though! Then we got back and got ready to go out and meet Shane and Heather. They took us to a bar for drinks and then to the Hard Rock Cafe. Alex and I loved it because we had been living on pasta for the last week! We ordered dessert and Alex had secretly told them it was my birthday- I had to hold my cake and stand on a chair in the middle of the restaurant while everyone said happy birthday! After we met Georgina and went to a bar in Darling Harbour before going to scary canaries and meeting Hugh, Josh and Matthew to celebrate more 😊
The next morning we missed breakfast (of course!) but the guy who owns the hostel felt bad for us and gave us money to buy him a latte and ourselves a tea, which was nice! Then we swapped rooms in our hostel - now we share a double bed because it's cheaper. We went to Paddy's Market and had a wander, I bought a boomerang! In the evening we just chatted with two guys from our hostel, Paul and Ashley.
The next day was lovely and sunny so we went to Bondi. There was a nice breeze so it was perfect sunbathing weather. We bought Opal cards (like an oyster) so we are official Australians now 😊 We were at the beach until quite late. In the evening we hung out with the people in our room, Erica, Mark and Dewin they were all really nice. The next morning was another sunny day so we went to Bondi again, Dewin from our room came with us. Then he left for work and Ashley and Paul came to meet us and we played bat and ball on the beach. Alex and I went home and Paul and Ash picked us up some sausages and baguette for a group dinner! In the evening we went to Toms house warming party (Robins friend I met my first week travelling) and hung out with Shane and Heather and their friends for a bit. Then we went back to the hostel because Erica was coming out with us.
The next day was a struggle and we went To subway then lounged in the communal area for ages talking to people. A guy in our hostel, Alan let us watch a film with him called 'prisoners' it was really good but I was scared haha Later in the evening we watched Django unchained with Alan, Paul, Ash and Reece. The next morning we met Hugh and Georgina and went to the Botanical Gardens. We went round some parts I hadn't been to before - it was fun to hang out with Hugh again. We had a chilled evening. Today we did some jobs like laundry then Alex went and did some gardening- it was our first time apart so naturally I moped around until her return because I missed her haha In the evening we played the Heads game where you have to describe what animal/ superstar is on their head and they guess. We played with Jasper, Erica, Ben and George - it was funny to play with people who were bilingual because some of the animals were really hard to describe!
