We woke up at 9 and Emily, Alex, Georgina and I got ready to meet Emily's aunt Sharon. She drove us through Christchurch and we saw buildings that were hanging off cliff edges and other's that were slanted backwards, it was quite sad to see. We got out at a coastal walk at a beach called 'Taylor's mistake' and walked to 'Boulder's head.' It was nice to see a prettier part of Christchurch. We found some shells called 'Paua' which we collected for our journals. We walked down to some houses that had been there since the 1800's. After a walk for an hour or two we got an ice cream, I had a scoop of gold rush and cookies and cream. Then Sharon dropped us back in town and we had a look at the church that was damaged in the earthquake and some art work. Then we went back to the hostel, ate food and Mick, Emily's uncle picked us up and took us to a pub quiz with his son Sam. It was a difficult quiz and we came 9th/12 haha :s The next day we packed and went for a walk around town. We visited the cardboard
cathedral which has been put up until they fix the church we saw yesterday. It costs $600 a day to maintain but was quite cool. A volunteer at the church ended up talking to us about the history of the area and it's links with Henry 8th. After we walked around the city and looked at some of the artwork and sculptures- there is lots around the city as people have tried to brighten up some places and use some of the damage to create something positive. Then we had lunch and got our shuttle to the airport 😞 Going to miss New Zealand loads it was weird to think another part of my travelling is done- it's going quickly. Our flight didn't have any food or films which was sad- that's what happens when you book with Jetstar I guess! The flight went quickly and Alex and I had a spare seat in between us which was good. We bought some tea and chocolate and had a sandwich from the airport. When we landed Alex O'Connors friend Dale met us, he was visiting her for two days for her birthday. We got a shuttle to our hostel Chili Blue
which is in Kings Cross. Alex, Emily, Rebecca and I were in a room together which was nice. The next morning I spoke to Rachel, Ennis, Ciara and Danielle which was nice. Then I found out the hostel had free breakfast which we were excited about! We had that and then got the train to Bondi. We went round a few shops in Bondi Junction and then went to the beach. It was a lovely sunny day- especially in comparison to New Zealand. Then we went back and got ready to go out for Alex's birthday. We had some drinks and then walked into the city to see the opera house lit up at night, we were going to go into the city for drinks but the gardens were locked so we went back to King's Cross for a few civilised drinks in a bar.
The next day we got up and went to Bondi again. Emily and I decided to go on the sculpture walk that is open for a few weeks along the coastline from Bondi. Unfortunately we couldn't see it all as someone had had an accident and it was blocked off. We walked around for
about an hour or so, some of the sculptures were a bit odd but loads of them were really cool. On the way back we saw someone getting pulled out the sea by a lifeboat, the water was getting quite rough as there was a storm coming in. We met up with the other girls and sunbathed on some grass for a bit. Then we just got into a travel agent and the storm hit- it was crazy! The thunder was the loudest I've ever heard and the lightening was literally in front of the shop where we were. The rain was absolutely pouring but it was really good to watch. When it stopped we went back to the hostel and got ready to celebrate mine and Alex's birthday before the girls left for Thailand. We went to a club called the Kings Cross Hotel, it was a good night although we did get stuck in the lift at one point which some of the girls found scary- it was quite funny! The next morning we had to get up to go to a BBQ with some of Emily's family friends. We got a bus to Maroubra Beach which was
pretty and had our first proper Aussie BBQ. We stayed there for most of the day before going home where Emily, Alex and Becca had to pack which was really sad. In the evening both Alex's and Emily gave me my birthday present which was a silver fern Pandora charm and a skull pen and chocolates for my birthday. The charm is really cool 😊
In the morning we dropped Alex, Emily and Becca at the train station- it was really weird to say goodbye after travelling with Emily and Alex since the beginning- Emily of course shed some tears but they are onto the next stop in their travels in Asia! After it was just me and Alex left so we went into town and hoped some retail therapy would cheer us up! I showed Alex round a bit of town and we saw our first Christmas tree in one of the shopping centres- they even start early in Aus! Then we went to Gypsy Travel to look at hiring a van to drive along some of the coast- we now have a van booked from the 8th December - 13th which we are going to drive the
Christmas is coming to Aus...
Shopping in town- first sign of christmas! Great Ocean Road with and then from Melbourne to Sydney! In the evening we tried to plan a bit of our time in Sydney and extended our stay at Chili Blue because we have met lots of cool people here and everyone is really friendly. On the Tuesday we went to watch the Melbourne Cup race with Alex's friend Amy. It is a huge deal over here and loads of people were dressed up and had been out all day drinking. We couldn't be bothered to dress up but thought we should go and watch it to see what all the fuss was about- it was just one race and then it was all over it was definitely not as good as the races at home! Other than that we just hung out in our hostel with some people.... I was a bit hyper because it's my birthday tomorrow!!!!
