Moose
This is what the kiddos did today. Moose ears and muffins! This child made "Everything" flavor muffin. Hm...what's "Everything?" : / Today was yet another beautiful, and sunny day in Goonellabah. For my lessons today, we continuted on with the snowy theme and I introducted the kiddos to the book "If You Give A Moose A Muffin" and it was a sucess. The kids made moose ears, and made their own "Flavors" of muffins. Very fun lesson for kids who would not typically talk about the snow, or learn about a moose.
We continuted on with the puppy chow rage and introduced puppy chow to our coworkers at the center today and it was a big hit. When we first tell people "puppy chow" the reaction we get is "Gross I don't want to eat dog food", and than they try a bite, and are asking "What's the recipe?" I'm happy to say our puppy chow AND scootcheroo recipes made it into our host mums cookbook.
An interesting fact to "WEIGH" on: This evening I learned that there is a measurement of weight called a "stone." My host families scale measures in kilos and stones, so I was having a tough time weighing myself. (Good news, I'm weighing in at the same weight I came to Australia with. I was a little worried, our host mum bakes a LOT of goodies. I know I bake a lot of goodies at home, but I also have Lifetime Fitness at home.) Nonetheless, I have those hills of Goonellabah to count on for working off my puppychow, ice cream, gelato, prawns, lasangna, meat pies, heaps of avacado and honey-banana mash yummy eats.
When I say "honey banana mash", this is a mixture of honey and mashed banana (bet you coulndn't of guessed that one) that our cook at school, Guy, makes for afternoon tea. It's quite delightful to snack on. Today I ran into Kelly's room to make sure she had tried it because I was enjoying this mash so much. Another Australia food I may try out myself.
This weekend I am lookng forward to being part of the Lismore Lantern Parade, as we will be staying in town this weekend. Check out the photos here
http://www.lanternparade.com/ (The photos appeal to me, hope they appeal to you as well. Wish us good weather!) The Lantern Parade is a big festival in "downtown" lismore, which we have not explored much yet, since we have been away all the other weekends. The preschool is also marching in the parade so we will take part in that with the children and their families. Another possibility of the weekend: Nimbin (Google that, and let me know your reactions... ; ) )
For now, Kelly is playing depressing music and just said to me "I crave chocolate." I think her internet must be going in and out. Often times, we have found that using the internet is a battle in our host families house, looks like I'm winning the battle right now. Let's just say both of us are losing the war, meaning we are about to dig into a box of tim tams. Here's to the down under sweets, mates.
