Well the weather is luckily starting to heat up, it not being sunny here at the end of October/November is like it not being cold in the UK! Last weekend, as part of Sydney Food Month, went to the Food and Wine festival in Hyde Park held to raise money for Aids awareness. You could get food from some of the best restaurants in town for 4 pounds! Despite the queues, was a gorgeous day and they also had live music. Its time like this that remind me of why I came here in the first place.
Live music seems to be a a bit of a theme, as this weekend there are bands and moonlight markets in the Rocks (the oldest part of town - for people that havent been here) which I am looking forward to.
Been spending weekends at the beach, the sun is so strong here, but is very handy that my friend Sandra has just moved into a house at the beach where you can literally see the sea from her balcony! They are so up on sunscreen here its hard to buy anything lower than factor 15, probably a good thing really. The

What do you think of the new Gothy look?! beach is all good but a little scary when my flat mate tells me she was on the beach the other day and suddenly there was a masive siren, and everyone rushed out of the water, only to find out later it was because two sharks had been spotted in the bay, but next day everyone is back in the water! Why did I choose to live in the most dangerous country in the world in terms of what lives here? And thats not even taking the men into consideration!
Next week is the Melbourne Cup which is like the Grand National, but much more popular and it being a weekday day I dont think much work gets done as a result! The company I am working for at the mo, is taking everyone to the local Randwick Racecourse, to watch the race on the big screen and the other races that are going on that day. Bring on the free food and drinks! Its a really formal affair which I can just about stretch to with my backpacker wardrobe, but I think a hat maybe pushing it! But should be a good day.
Later this week am
Sydney Opera House
As Jaz knows well, you can never have too many pictures of this building! going to see one of my house mates play a gig with their band, they have just got offered a recording contract and are on TV and radio next week, so I could be living with a future rock star! Look out for the Soft Tigers soon!
Just told work of my leaving date in December, the day before I fly to NZ for a couple of weeks, cant wait to be on the road again, I know I am not supposed to be "travelling" so much this time but its still in my blood and I'm not quite ready to quit it yet.

Having a very live music orientated week this week, went to see housemate Neil's band play in the city at a club called Spectrum,...you know what kind of place it is where you dont want to stand in one place for too long because otherwise you find yourself stuck to the floor, but being out in jeans and trainers and drinking a schooner (those of you that have been to Oz should know what that is!) added to a alternatively wicked night. (Canadian girlies, I am listening to Sam Roberts as I write
this - such great memories of trying to leave Toronto!!!- I miss u!) Anyway turned out to be a bit of a big night (it was a Thursday after all, nearly the weekend!) very bad on a school night.
Last night Sandra and I went to Markets by Moonlight in the Rocks, where there was a stage with more live bands, everyone was singing along enthusiastically so I guess they are famous in Oz! The best thing about things like this in Sydney is it was free!!!! there was also lots of food stands and of course the moonlight markets. A good way to spend a friday night when you dont feel like another beer!
Weather is crappy again this weekend, so just chilling with a DVD tonight at my friends house. More moonlight markets, house party and seeing Neil's band play again next weekend.....

Good rest of weekend, altho sat (and since!) has been rainy, (hurray I hear you all day!), Sunday I managed to sit in the Big Brother chair and see Charlene's (as in Scott and Charlene) wedding dress from Neighbours, very exciting stuff. (Went to the Powerhouse Musuem in Sydney!)

The stage at Moonlight Markets
Anyone heard of Mark Seymour & James Reyne???? Everyone else but we had. I love the Melbourne Cup!!! Its such a big thing here, maybe because its during the week and a great excuse not to do some work, whereas the Grand national is at the weekend. Anyway work payed for us all to go, we had 3 tables in the Upper Tea House Daaaaaaarling. The food was steak, prawns and oysters and the drink was def champagne! The sun came out and I even won on the race, not bad for a "backpacker" eh! Apart from being so drunk and passing out at 7pm (I did make it home!) it was alll good.
Oh and there are loads of Laotian restaurants in Sydney, I can almost hear the Beer Lao calling Intrepid group..........
