Our stateroom #6125
Queen Mary Day 1

With assistance from Jenny’s dad and brother we were driven from Kirrawee to Circular Quay and arrived at around 2.30 p.m. with some degree of excitement.

After dropping of the luggage, we went to the reception area where staff were everywhere helping with this and that and all things in between. First we were given a health questionnaire with two questions. Nobody checked the veracity of the answers. We were also given a departure card and off we went to the check-in reception. There a lovely lady took our health questions and preceded to get a key card that will probably cost a fortune as it is linked to our credit card.

Next it was Customs, and then we had our passports taken. Apparently some Chinese Officials will be checking Visas in Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia).

Then to the room, or stateroom as Cunard calls them and our bags were waiting for us. Carlos, our Steward gave us a run down and then we had a wander, a safety lesson and the preparation for dinner.

What an experience!! Waiters everywhere, service superb and

The room with a view
food was delicious washed down with ice-cold water and coffee. One trick is the menu set-up. For some reason Main course is shown as Entrée.

Back to the stateroom and Carlos had folded down the bed and left two chocolates as well as empty the wastebasket. Ten minutes or so after we were in the room there was a knock at the door and it was Carlos with our dressing gowns. Slippers were in the bedroom awaiting as well.

As the cruise was to commence at 9.00 p.m. most passengers went to deck 14 to watch the manoeuvre of the vessel passed the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. All done to some rousing renditions of favourites like “I am sailing”. We reached the Heads of Port Jackson at 10.00 p.m. and settled down for the evening.

Now it is bedtime on day 1, 14 March 2014.
