Bondi Beach
My view from the hill when I first got to the beach. No run for me today - it was nice out this morning but my legs need some rest. With that in mind, I made today a relaxing day. It started off with a plan to go to Bondi Beach, Australia’s most well-known beach. I was taking care of some additional Everest Base Camp items and finishing up my last few days’ entries when I looked out the window and discovered it was raining.
Well, maybe no beach after all.
With the sour weather, I continued to take care of a bunch of things online that I’ve neglected. Finally, the rain stopped. I checked in with the hostel’s information desk and found out that the rest of the day should be better but there could be patches of rain. Even so, I decided to take the trip out to Bondi.
I arrived around 2:00 via a public bus that left from in town. The bus was packed with other people heading to the beach. I wasn’t sure just how full the beach would be, as I understand on the hottest weekend days there can be upwards of 60,000 people! Either way, this would be a far cry from my experience

Ios.
The road into the beach reminded me a lot of Ios and Nice, as we went steeply downhill to get to the actual beach. The beach itself was somewhat crowded but there were nowhere near 60,000 people. I walked down the hill and found an open spot towards the water about a quarter of the way in.
People sunbathed all around and many others enjoyed surfing and playing in the ocean water. After a bit of sunbathing myself, I tested out the water myself. It’s definitely not what I’m used to in Ft. Lauderdale in July but after a minute or two, my body grew used to what I estimate is about a 75°F water temperature.
Also like Ios, this is a tops optional beach (but bottoms on).
Unlike Ios, the physical quality of those participating in the more revealing option was much more agreeable. In general, the physical attributes of most on this beach were far superior to any
beautiful people beach I’ve been to; and much better than South Beach, Miami.
After a few hours I wrapped my day up, grabbed a fruit smoothie and caught the bus back into town. I noticed
Wave
Trying out my new waterproof camera. The water was full of sand so an actual underwater shot wouldn't have turned out well. I had gotten some good color. This time I was smart enough to use sunscreen on my face and neck so I can avoid the peeling like I had from Auckland.
I had dinner at a small café in town. As I dined on the healthiest meal I’ve had in weeks - a spicy steak salad - I worked a bit more on some future plans.
Tomorrow will likely be my last full day in Sydney. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up with Kelly, who I know from New York, while I’m here.
