So as most of you know I have arrived safe and sound in the beautiful city of Sydney. It’s been a strange first week as I have met some amazing people and had to say goodbye to them as quickly as I said hello. I have continued my tradition of lifting my shirt up to unsuspecting people and shouting abuse at helpless by-standers while being slightly intoxicated which has been every day since I arrived. Feels like uni again! Anyway during my more posed times of the day I have been up to a number of activities.
The first day I arrived it was half six in the morning so I was unable to check into my beautifully decorated hostel in the slightly seedy area of Kings Cross (over here it is an area teemed with ladies of the night and drug dealers). So to combat the wait I decided to go for a stroll. During this journey I visited the Sydney Opera house, which is extremely beautiful and a great place for jumping photos! I wandered through the equally beautiful botanical gardens and observed the extraordinary sight of bats sleeping in the trees during the day. After this I
Bondi's best life guard
Just doing my job..oh the sea is behind me, I wondered where it was jumped onto a tour bus and saw the city for all its glory. Its a strange mix of gothic style buildings stuck in between new skyscrapers. This was all before 12 o'clock! The rest of the day took a downturn as I felt the pull of my bed and settled in for the night at 6pm.
The next day the sun was out and I was up bright and early! I felt the need to do something spontaneous so decided to visit the Sydney Sky tower (third tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere) I took a daring walk on the outside and stood sheepishly on the glass floors that descended 304 metres above the city streets. After this I visited the National history museum that filled my head up full of facts that would amazing my peers during the drinking events at night. Forget about Dan's dream of the day over in oz we now have Dan's fact of the day. Finally to end the day I underwent a full Australian make-over which just involves drinking a box of the cheapest boxed wine you can find ($10...nice!) which to us backpacker type is called Goon! Oh what memories
poured back from times in the outback in January.
Now I would love to tell you that Thursday and Friday brought even more excitement but any plans were rained off and when it rains over here it bloody rains! So we confined ourselves to the hostel and drowned our sorrows with yes you guessed it more goon. On the Friday my lovely friends decided that it was time to visit a steak house ($10 steak so top of the range steak) now considering that these 'friends' knew I was a veggie they thought it all the more polite to banter me about why I should eat meat. Needless to say that night had a few awkward silences.
So I'm going to backtrack a little and remind you of those bats in the gardens. Saturday resulting in us all playing football in the park at about 5pm. During our professional standard of playing it came to our attention that there was strange sound coming from just above our heads. Hundreds of bats had taken flight in the park during dusk and resulted in a spectacular spectacle. Now these weren't small bats either these were bats the size of your
arm. Beautiful creatures!
Sunday had us walk the furthest I have ever walked for months. A 3 mile coastal walk from Bondi beach to Coogee with the group. Needless to say my many months of work in the gym was a vast comparison to the semi-gods patrolling the beach for unsuspecting women! Upon our travels we met a professional rugby league player who I tried to give tips on getting the perfectly sculptured body i.e. my own.
The last few days I have seen me visit Darling harbour, which is a sexy little number by the city, where it houses the largest cinema screen in the world, entertain Rich on his birthday/leaving do in the sky tower restaurant (amazing views but $9 a pint...come on!) and finally go to an Oasis tribute gig, which to give them credit were really good! I am also sharing a room with a champion beat boxer! I tried to give him some tips but understandably he has not incorporated them in his act.
