Sydney, Australia - February 7th - 10:45pm
Why is it when you have something to do the next day you get a shitty sleep or you wake up with a calf cramp that doesn’t go away.
I got up at 7am to shower, grab a quick drink of milk to hopefully relax my calf muscle and we were off. Linda was nice enough to drop me off at the Manly ferry so it was easier for me to get to the city. There is a bus that goes to the city but it’s a little tricky to get to. SO we planned to meet back here after my day excursion.
I grabbed a coffee, jumped on the ferry, and read my book a little. It’s always so hard to put a book down when you only have 5 chapters left in the book. I might have to lock myself in my room tomorrow and finish it up. The ferry ride is a nice 30 minute ride to the city with nice views of the harbour. I saw it last time when Linda and I came across. I got to Circular Quay and had to walk a little down George Street
to Wynard station where Ann was going to meet me. She was a little late but we found each other easily.
We were both hungry so we walked back to Circular Quay to grab a bite to eat at one of the cafes. We both had a BLT with water. Yummy. We then walked down to Mrs. Macquaries Chair. I thought I knew my way around but you always find shorter ways to get to places. I realized that the Botanical Gardens is very confusing, with lots of little paths this way and that way. After a little scenic walk around the gardens I found where I was going and we got there safely. There were some guys fishing off the boardwalk and Ann wanted to know what they were catching, so we had a nice little talk with the fishermen. They looked at us funny when we stopped to talk to them but they were friendly.
Even though I’ve been there 3 times the views never seem to be dull. I could sit there for hours admiring the views of the harbour and Opera House, do some people watching. I’m not going to be here much longer so I have to soak it all in. I then realized that there was a quick way to get to the Opera House…sorry Lee I took you on the long route! Teehee Love you.
We walked by the Opera House and up to the Rocks. The Rocks is where Sydney started from and I had forgotten that on Saturdays they have a market. So we took a few minutes to walk around and there were some gorgeous things, some a little pricey but gorgeous. Ann and I did pick up a racing Kangaroo. They are super cute and move. I guess you never grow up. After looking around we walked over to the stairs to get us onto Harbour Bridge. We walked to the first pylon and walked up it. I’ve done it before but it was worth the 9,50 to do it again. We continued our way across the bridge. Ann and I were feeling a little light headed and warm from walking in the sun all morning. So when we got to Milson’s Point we went to a cute little Thai restaurant. The food was great but the waitress didn’t seem to like me too much as I asked for water and she rolled her eyes at me. Luckily it was after we got our food so she coulndn’t spit in it! Haha
We were going to head into Newtown as Dan said it was a nice shopping area for Ann’s taste. When we thought about it though we decided to stop at a café for iced drinks instead. I was thankful she suggested this as my feet were killing me. Linda had some Birkenstocks that she didn’t like and had never worn and gave them to me. If you’ve ever had Birkenstocks you’d know that you have to break them in a little, not this chick. I put them on this morning and remembered on the ferry that I should have broughten my old Croc sandals but it was way too late by this point. My the time we sat down I had formed a blister on my foot and it had burst. My feet were a little tender to say the least.
We enjoyed the iced drinks and chatted away till Dan was done his seminar. Dan is Ann’s friend who she is staying with. He met us at Milson’s Point and we went to a Kite Board Beach. He’s just learning how to Kite Board and wanted to get out for a ride. When we got to the beach Ann and I walked up and down the beach. The sand was like Caribbean sand, white sand that was powder. It felt nice on my little feet. We then wadded in the water up to our knees and the salt water attached my blister but it was good cause it was cleaning it, just with a little stinging.
It was getting a little windy for a kite boarding as the weather as to be perfect when you are just learning. Dan got his try out and ended up flying through the air. It seemed like it hurt but he was fine.
We then headed out and grabbed a small dinner at a small Lebanese Restaurant. Well we just wanted a small platter with a bunch of different things on it, but we couldn’t order just one for the 3 of us so we had to get 3 small dishes. Crazy people. After we figured it all out we had a great meal but the waiter wouldn’t talk to anyone but Dan. I guess they only communicate with the males of the group. So I piped up and ordered 3 dishes for us, he looked a little taken back but I didn’t care. Every time he would come back he would only speak to Dan. Would you guys like anything else?? I would answer just to be the smart ass that I am. It was quiet humorous.
There wasn’t too much else to do so Dan and Ann dropped me off at the bus station to catch the bus back. After a few minutes of staring at the bus schedule I think I figured it out. I asked the bus driver just to make sure if it went to Narabeen and he confirmed it did. I asked him to let me know when we got there because I wasn’t sure where it came in and I was scared I’d miss it. He was nice enough to ask me where I was going and things so after a few minutes he realized that he was following a bus that would stop off right at the corner where Linda and David live. So we eventually passed him as we had less stops and I thanked the lovely bus driver and jumped on the next time. This guy was just as nice, he told me to remind him in 10minutes and he’d make sure I got there ok. When we got to the street he says well there isn’t a bus stop here, I said oh I’m sorry I thought there was one close he looks at me and goes ‘Hey look at that, we just made on.” So I got dropped off at the door step pretty much. It was great. I was very impressed at how helpful and polite they were.
So needless to say I got home safe and sound. David was scheduled to come home tonight as well from Singapore but his flight was a little late. I stayed up to talk to him and chat for a few minutes but went up to bed soon after as my legs were so tired and my feet were killing me.
