Just a quick entry about a really great art exhibit we went to here in Sydney. The Sydney Biennale is an International Contemporary Art exhibit that goes on every other year (hence the name). This year, the art show took over a place called Cockatoo Island, which is in the middle of Sydney Harbor. The island itself is really fascinating - it was originally built as a prison way back when, and then converted into a "industrial school for wayward girls" and then a shipyard during World War 1&2. Its basically a bunch of old industrial wharehouses and shipyards filled with elaborate and ancient looking equipment.
The island was opened up to the public a few years back, and is now housing the art exhibit. There was a free ferry from Circular Quay to the island, and they let you off to just wander around at your leisure and get lost on the island (which gets a bit creepy once it gets dark). You could literally sit down in the corner of a building and stay there all night, and no one would ever come trying to find you. At every corner you turned there was a new exhibit of
paintings, scultpures, videos, animations, etc... All very contemporary and a bit strange, but it added to the experience, history, and texture of the island.
Aside from the art it was some great scenery, so enjoy the photos! (there aren't any bugs in this one - for a change) If you're interested in the exhibit you can go to this website to find out more - www.bos2008.com
