Hi you all!
Since i left Perth (i know it's quite a long time ago now..), some Belgian friends (Julie, Matt, Sophie and Scott) came in Australia and we travelled together from Sydney to Cairns. We have seen a lot of things and we spent a really good time!
I met them at Sydney airport and we went straight to the hostel in Kings cross after what we went in the city to eat. I thought they would be tired ..but not really so we went to see the Sydney Harbour by night! That was lovelly but a bit cold.. so we decided to warm up in a pub in the Rocks and try the ozie beer!
The first day was dedicated to the discovery of Sydney. We walked from Kings Cross to the Opera house, the Harbour bridge, we did a Harbour cruise, then stopped on the Darling Harbour to go to the aquarium. It was surprising to see the sharks swimming above our head! We also went up the Sydney Tower and had a nice view of Sydney at sunset!
It was a good day and we were a bit tired.. But we still went out for a drink or two and did a pool game.. of course!
On Tuesday, the next day, we did a trip to the Blue Mountains.. It was sunny and warm.. A good walking day near Katoomba, to several falls. Another tiring day, almost everybody felt asleep in the train.
On Wednesday, the weather wasn't so nice so we took a bit of rest. Then, we headed to the botanical garden were we saw lots of flyingfoxes flying all around. After the lunch, it was time to take our plane to Brisbane.
We arrived in the evening had the time to pick up the rental car (a hyundai santa fee) and to go to the hostel. We went out for dinner and then to the casino.. It's a nice building from the outside as well as from the inside. There is a great gaming room .. if you like to play .. or watch the people lossing money at the Wheel or the Black Jack!!
On the 26 of october, we did a little tour of Brisbane near the river and drove to Hervey Bay to take our 4wd to go on Fraser Island! The guy explained us all the tricks
to drive on the sand and as i said a couple of times:''Nice and easy!''
Which doesn't always mean that it is EASY! In fact, the next morming, we left early at 7.00am we took the ferry with our 4wd. So just arrived on the island, with our map, we had to drive first to lake Wabby the center of the island. We felt a bit surprised at the beginning.. It wasn't so easy at all to drive on deep soft sand .. especially when the track goes up.. some other people were blocking the way before us.. We had to go down of the jeep and push on the accelerator at his maximum! Finally we found our sand driver: Scott.. It was like he had done that a couple of times already! When we arrived at Lake Wabby the sun was shinning, it was hot.. and we felt like walking in the desert! but not so long.. then we could refresh ourselves in the lake. The water was still fresh but nevertheless, we could swim. After a few hours, realxing and swimming with catfishes, we headed back to the jeep. The vue from the top was really really nice!not
to say .. awesome! lol Then we arrived on the beach after another halfhour drive on the soft sand! At that moment, we all looked at the ocean.. and amazed, we stopped. Ohoh, we realized that we were stuck again in the sand.. It was bit difficult to get out of it but we finally managed to go farther. Then, driving on the hard sand on the beach that was a bit different.. faster.. quite fun! We stopped a few times along the way, one of them was to see the Maheno ship wreck, and finally reached Indian Point. The far end of the beach. From there, the view is amazing! And, lucky we were, we could see turtels in the ocean just in front of us. Then, we headed back to the resort for the night, and enjoyed a little late swim (again). As the restaurant was closed , we just ate something in the room playing cards..
The second day on Fraser, we went to eli creek then we had to leave the beach before the high tyde came in.. We headed to the central station, to do a nice walk in the rainforest. The path was a
bit easier than the prevouis day. After what we headed to Lake McKenzie, where we had lunch and relaxed on the beach. The weather wasn't really with us but the sun came in a little bit at the end. Then, it was time to drive back to take the ferry to be sure to be on time and not stuck somewhere...The driving was quite fun again but no so easy! When we were bak to Hervey Bay it was already late and we were all tired after the two days so we went to bed just after dinner.
On the 29 of october, We drove to Airlie Beach. There is not much to say i guess.
The next day was the departure for the sailing in the Whitesundays.
We went to check in at 10.30 then as the departure time was midday we had a bit of time to wander around and do aome shopping. Then, we went at the meeting point. Once on the boat, they explained what we will be doin the next two days. The first stop was a snorkelling spot. At that time of the year, we have to put a stinger suit on but it
was welcome as the water was a bit cold. After that, we had the dinner and the evening went fine watching the sunset, talking to the people we just met...We didn't go to bed so late. The next morning, evebody woke up quite early. The breakfast was served and we were goin to the Whiteheaven Beach for the morning. We spent a few hours there after a little walk and an awesome look out on the whitesundays! Then, back on the boat, we had lunch and went for a bit of sailing, enjoying our time! A bit later, we stopped at a very nice snorkelling spot.. not yet like the great barrier reef but alomost.. It was clear and there was a lot of fishes! We spent more time in the water. Then, back to the boat, we had nachos and we went further to find a nice place to stay for the night. That night was the Halloween Night.. So some american girls managed to convice everybody on the boat to dress up for a '' Tonga Party''!!
I will tell you about that on the next page !
