The Ivy
Michaela and I chilling at the top floor of the Ivy (bar)... that has a pool!! Happy belated 22nd Birthday to ME!!! 😊
The birthday weekend was a great success! A big thanks to everyone who sent their love via cards, gifts, flowers, or skype!! I'm glad that everyone across the pond has not forgotten about me! The entire week & weekend was great, so I couldn't have asked for anything better for a better 22nd in Sydney!
Friday I went to the Taronga Zoo with my roommate Michaela, which was really fun. The weather was sooo nice and the sun was out (resulting in some not-so-nice tan lines). The zoo was really cool and you it overlooked the entire city, which was really pretty. Friday night was Michaela's going away party - all her friends from school came to our apartment and we rocked out to Spice Girls & Backstreet Boys while enjoying boxed wine and snacks. Michaela is the cutest hostess and had a huge array of snacks for everyone set out on the table! So we partied here for a bit and then went to a bar called Jackson's, just down the street, and danced til the wee hours of the morning. It was so much fun and meeting all her friends
was great - they were so nice and reminded me of all my amazing friends at home!
Saturday night was my birthday party night, so Michaela, Raphaela, and I walked through the harbour down to Argyle and met all my friends for my birthday! It was great because everyone that I wanted to show up was there, like my really good friends from school last semester, Matt & Chris. I also invited this kid Eric from one of my classes, who goes to school at Wisconsin, and coincidentally, he was friends with Chris and them as well! And they brought some other people too, so it was really nice meeting new people! It was a really fun night, not quite as exciting as turning 21, but I don't think any birthday can ever be better than that.
Sunday (MY BIRTHDAYYY) I was woken up after having only 5 hours of sleep by my roommates singing 'happy birthday' with a chocolate cake, complete with candles! It was so cute and SO nice of them! They also got me a REALLY cute black dress as well. Then I went to church with Raphaela, which was also REALLY good and I'm

View fm Taronga Zoo glad I finally got out of bed on a Sunday morning to do it. After church, we met up with Michaela to have her last lunch in Australia. She made Raphaela and I these really cute cards with pictures from our weekend together - she is seriously one of the sweetest people I have ever met! So later that evening I helped her with her million piece of luggage down to the train station and we said our goodbyes. I still can't believe she's gone, our room is so empty now!! But overall, it was a great, relaxing, fun birthday 😊 Definitely a different experience from being in Iowa City, but a complete success nonetheless!!
I'm sure I forgot a few details, but now that I'm old I guess I have a good excuse 😊 Life is great, school is good, the weather is absolutely perfect (minus a few showers here or there), and work is great (got another chocolate cake from them on my birthday, too!). Even though there are some things I really miss about the States, I'm already starting to get sad about having to leave this place in 3 months! It's gonna be tough going
ROOMIES!
Michaela's going away party! back to a place where it's mainly dominated by Americans... it's gonna be strange not being able to go out at night and not meet people from all over the world, which I think will be one of the things I will definitely miss most. So now I'm just trying to live every day to the fullest and enjoy the rest of my time here...
