My last night here in Australia and I'm really going to miss it. I've seen a couple of the main sites of the country but no where near enough. I am definately coming back here, with a working holiday visa. There is something good about this country.
Weirdest coincidence EVER, I'm just getting settled into my room when 3 girls about my age come in, and I introduce myself to them. One seems vaguely familiar and she asks me 'Is your name Becky SCOTT?' Turns out me and her (Lucy Johnstone) went to primary school together (the study) and she is sharing a room in one of the biggest hostel in Sydney. And to make things weirder on the same floor is another girl I went to the study with, Natalie Clough. Man its a small world. I've ended up being in an all girls room again, which is odd as that happened in Cairns too - despite me not booking it. I don't mind either way really though.
I managed to lose my shampoo and facewash in Cairns (I suspect they may have been stolen - the plot thickens!) I'm kinda annoyed as they were expensive lush things in
Me and the Opera House
No idea why I'm pulling and disgusted expression. Some nice little japanese girl took this photo for me. little tins. Although the wash made my skin greasy and the shampoo had turned to mush, so I spent my first hour wandering about trying to find a drug store. Then I went down to the harbour, which is about a mile away, and had a nice walk through the city. Its funny that I felt less of a culture shock in Cairns because I am not used to towns, with the sea and a rainforest. But in Sydney I found it very odd because I am used to a big city so all the differences really struck me. If that makes any sense. I felt so excited seeing the famous bridge and of course the opera house. There was a teenage boys busking, and he had a really nice voice, very relaxing. I must have spent an hour just sitting in the grass watching the ferries go by listening to the music, it was a lovely moment. I then went on to the botanical gardens, where I went to a place called the government house. But the moment I got there it started to pour with rain, so I found a little wooden pavillion in the middle of the

I must have been trapped by that shower for an hour but again it was a lovely moment. The gardens were really beautiful although slightly marred by the rain. I really missed my umbrella at home.
Then I heard some screeching and realised that in the trees above me I was surrounded by fruit bats - or flying foxes. God they were huge. Lots were squabbling and they were flying and swooping all around me. I felt like I was in a Hunter S. Thompson book.
After the bats I was walking through a jungle walk and there was this lizard just chilling on a rock. And Yes Katherine I will put photo's up cos I like lizards, I find them interesting. So There. Haha.
Then I walked back and went to the bar with an American girl in my room called Janelle. then we went and chilled in the TV room which is a room full of mattresses and bean bags and a giant TV (bigger than yours, Ripton)
Today I washed my clothes in a washing machine and dired
them in a drier which was so exciting it made me feel quite sad. Washing your clothes in the sink and drying them on a pegless washing line just ins't the same. then me and Janelle headed out to Manly beach (I love that name!) Which was really nice. I didn't swim as the water was cold but I had a 'paddle' (how English!) and there was so many hermit crabs in the water. They kept being washed into my feet which was a really horrible feeling especially when the water was all cloudy with sand. There was a huge thunderstorm on the beach, the lightning was spectacular, I tried getting photos but I wasn't quick enough unfortunately. Janelle then headed back to the hostel and I stayed in Manly and found some cheapish Barramundi to eat, which has been highly recommended by dad. It was a really nice fish actually except the middle was slightly undercooked and slimy.
Then I caught the ferry back, walked back to the hostel and now here I am wiritng this blog.
Thanks for all the emails - keep em coming
