Oran Park Race Track, Narellan, Australia - January 25th - 6:52pm I guess I got another good sleep last night as I was up at 6:50am when my alarm was set for 7am. I got up and showered, packed a lunch for today. Jean had some wonderful coffee waiting for me when I got up so I had a coffee and cereal and we were off. The track was about 30minutes away, but it was a nice morning drive with the top down. The group from last night hadn’t gotten there yet so Jean took me to the tower where she’ll be working and showered me around the place. It was an old run down race track. I spent most of the second half of Hayley's Christening trying to figure out who the vicar reminded me of and, bizarrely enough, it turned out to be Bob Hoskins circa ''The Long Good Friday". Geezer. He’d lost any goodwill I had towards him after handling the head dunking with no little skill by informing me that it didn’t matter how good I was, I was going to Hell if Jesus wasn't my friend. This little bombshell he predictably followed up by praising the Lord for his glorious and merciful nature, the irony of which seemed to have passed him by. Just a quick note to let you all know I got here in one piece. Got to say it's still all really surreal - don’t think I’m ever going to truly believe the last few weeks actually happened. Had a quick drive around on Sunday and even after that I'm still struggling to come to terms with things. Had a great flight over and possible the most incredible landing ever in Sydney. The weather was bad enough for them to put us in a holding pattern for half an hour over the city until it calmed a little, so we came in through low cloud and rain just like in the worst sort of disaster movies, no lights in the cabin, being thrown around by all the turbulence, (it wasn't that bad, but humour me), hushed ... read more
