Will with our surprise limo
Sat in Tea Gardens having a beer when a bloke comes in from Tooheys saying "do you want a free limo ride and beer for the next 20mins?". No, I'm busy washing me hair pal... lol Well then, this is as far as I got round Oz before I decided to set up camp and settle down for a while, good choice really if ya ask me. How the f**k I'm gonna fit 5 months of stories into just one blog is beyond me but I'll give it a go all the same...
The drive from Melbourne to Sydney I managed to gun in 10hrs after giving it legs from Jools's house still hungover from the going out clubbing the night before but had to get away coz it was driving me mental. Rang Paul at 5am to meet up with him, found the hostel he was in and sorted myself out sharpish so I could get a beer and chill out for an hour before I went bed, no such joy though coz the bouncer in the Sports Bar in Kings Cross is a sodding jobsworth of the highest degree and told us we'd both had enough already. Oh aye yeah, he drinks in his sleep and I've just done a 10hr drive with a bottle of bourbon in me hand ya cock! Bedtime it is then. :o(
When I woke up i rang Dave who
Sydney skyline
This was the view from the roof of my hostel in Kings Cross I'd been hanging around with on Koh Phangan and in Bangkok to see if he fancied meeting up so met him in Kings Cross and caught up on what we'd both been up to. He was living in Bondi Junction (my current home), so he invited us out to the poker night at the local that night with Paul and Tom. Right, I'm already a big chunk of text down the line now and I'm only on the 2nd day, there's no way I can do this like I have done all the other places is there?! I'll try and cut it down a bit I reckon.
I was staying in D-Lux Backpackers near Pie-Face in Kings Cross and it was a quality place to stay, for anyone that doesn't already know though Kings Cross is Sydney's red light district and nightclub central so staying round there is never gonna be easy on your wallet! I lasted three weeks there ballooning around with Paul and Tom before they left for Byron Bay, I fell out with people for sleeping around and I just needed to get away from the place before it sucked me dry of all my cash so
My old house in Gosford
With Andrew straining one out on the drive - see, this is what Toohey's Platinum does to ya kid! I moved into Dave and Rira's house in the Junction (otherwise known as County Bondi as it's pretty much entirely Irish), for $100pw. Also met a girl called Olivia who lived there that I've had an on-off relationship with ever since I moved in but to tell ya the story behind that would take far too long.
Around this time I met up with Kristie who I'd been knocking about with on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand and all but she was off doing the opposite to me in a couple of weeks from then and going to England for a year to see what the craic was but still went drinking with her a few times before she left (although the less said about her leaving do the better, I was a complete write off and I've still got the scars to prove it - me and glass don't mix when I'm wasted!).
Soon after that I got myself my first job since last November doing removals for some cheap arse bastard who would only employ backpackers coz he can get away with not putting it through the books but I was in desperate need so had to take
Dave in a trolley
Me first night in the Junction and we're already causing havoc - good shit it on - worst job I've ever had in my entire life! Not only is it hard as f**k, the main bloke i was working with was a complete tool and kept whining on at me when I kept dropping mattresses coz I couldn't grip them properly down 4 flights of stairs - do one ya twat! Surprisingly enough I only lasted about 6 weeks there before I found something enjoyable to do instead. It was around this time that England were limping through the World Cup (shoulda heard the Aussies though - they thought they were gonna win it ffs!), and I went and got me eyebrow pierced one day coz I was bored but the main thing was that I got a job with Dave's boss doing painting and I loved it! It was probably the fact that we were painting the roof of this mansion right on Sydney Harbour and the view was stunning but it was the first job I've had since I was a kid that I've actually enjoyed doing (AD will love that comment), and even though the pay wasn't amazing it still paid for the rent and fuelled my weekend drinking binges once
Bondi Beach!
It took me from 25th March till 16th September before I went to the beach in Oz but I've done it now at last - I only live 10mins up the road and all ffs! again.
It was around this time that me mate Tony from back home gave his mate Clare who lived in Bondi a shout to see if she'd meet up with me someday and she did surprisingly! Was a nice change hearing a normal accent again (even if she does speak about 5 words per minute - :op), after listening to Paddy's and Aussie's all the time usually. I started knocking about with her and her mates Gemma and Kate who were sisters from back in New Mills after that so I could branch out from the overwhelming Irish invasion of the Junction at last! lol
Just when I was sorted with a job I enjoyed I got offered a job on AutoCAD right in the centre of Sydney which completely threw my head (my Mum got the brunt of it down the phone), but in the end I took the right decision of jacking the painting in and carrying on with CAD work again. The firm I work for are a fire safety engineering firm so I draw up buildings from the hard copies on AutoCAD then add on where they want the fire safety stuff (smoke detectors, sprinklers, etc.),
Me Mum and Stu
When they came to see us in October as per thier plans. Within the first month of being there I got sent to Melbourne on a business trip and all so well impressed so far! I'm finally getting into the shirt and tie dress code we have and all so I look respectable for a change (well, as respectable as you can look with 2 piercings with a Manc accent).
I did have my hair pretty long up until about a month ago then Olivia who lives in our house tried to highlight it pulled far too much hair through the cap, left it on too long and turned me into an albino so I ran straight to the barbers and had it all shaved like I used to have it at school. It's starting to grow back now though so I don't look as much like Vanilla Ice as I did thank f**k... lol.
Me Mum came out to see me the other week which was proper good but she went and messed her flights up on the way home so I didn't even get to see her off at the airport (10/10 for that one ya numpty!), and after smoking between 20 and 40 a day
Driving across the bridge...
Had to get a pic for proof anyway even if it is pretty boring! for the last year since I left England I've finally quit smoking and I'm jsut starting to feel the benefits which is good.
Apart from that, my life consists of working and lots and lots of drinking week in week out and I wouldn't have it any other way. I got kicked out of Chinese Laundry (a big club out here), the other week for being too wasted - first time in my life that's happened and I've got 101 other stories to tell including the time i had a fight with an Asian taxi driver and got chinned then threatened to kill him but if I put all those in here it'll kill me so I'll tell ya's when I see ya's next yeah? Take it easy and I'll see ya's in a bit... ;o)
