Well have been very slack and not written for a while, so thought had better continue with my (slightly rubbing it in at times) story of living in Oz....
Got back to Sydney in time for New Year, stayed with my friends for while, 8 of us in a two bedroom flat sounds ever so rock n roll and wild whereas in was neither, am am fully aware that makes me sound both very English and old! Anyway enough of the moaning otherwise none of you will be reading on. New Year was great, none of that hassle that you have getting anywhere in the UK. We had a BBQ at home which was lovely and very international, I think out of 8 of us there was 7 different nationalities. We then went to watch the fireworks at a park called darling Point, which had amazing views of the Bridge. The fireworks were meant to especially spectacular this year as the bridge was celebrating its 125th anniversary. If you click on the little icon at the top of this blog that looks like a film reel you can see a little video of the fireworks, make sure
you have the sound on for my friend's lovely singing! The atmosphere was very relaxed and we could all sit with our BYO, a lot more chilled than what I've heard from people who crammed into Circular Quay. Managed surprisingly easily to get a train and bus back to Bondi where Katty and I managed to squeeze into the big party on Bondi Beach for free, feeling very chuffed with ourselves until we discovered it finished 5 minutes later!
Next few days were spent looking looking for a house, I knew I wanted to be near the beach with it being the summer, and a lot of backpackers were moving on up the coast. So I looked at some holes and I looked at some rooms the size of my wardrobe before finding a flat in a road with the longest name ever: Sir Thomas Mitchel Road. My new flatmate is called Eva and she is Czech but lives in Australia. It isnt massive but fine for the two of us, and more importantly has a fridge big enough for a family of 10! It is two minutes from the beach and is in a quiet complex. My room

Kris (Canadian), Dale (Oz), Lena (German), Omri (Israeli), Katty (Austrian) and Sandra (Austrian) is massive light and airy and by looking at adverts in the local area of people moving on managed to furnish my whole room with a double bed, bedside table, chest of drawers, clothes rail and heater for $100 (about 40 quid) so cant really complain about that. Living in Bondi is great, its a good mix of backpackers, Kiwis, big Jewish community and of course the beautiful people, so many Paris Hilton wannabes its not funny even down to them carrying little dogs around, no joke. Its pretty chilled though, its not all new and flashy but has more of a Brighton-esque feel about it.
Through my housemate I have been working at the weekends at a 4.5* (couldnt they quite make 5?!) hotel in Bondi, the
Swiss Grand Hotel which is bloody hard work but pays well and its just a five minute walk away. My day job recently has been at a company in the city that are researching a new test for breast cancer through the examination of hair, a very worthy cause and nice to not work for "the man" for a little while. Alas it was only every a temp position and I finish at
NYE Fireworks 2
Bit blurry but view of the fireworks over Sydney Harbour Bridge the end of this week, so back to the job search. Ideally I want to find a position that will take me up to the end of my time here.
Extra curricularly as you can see I went to my friend Kris's fairy tale fancy dress party as the Queen of Hearts, temporarily forgetting in the panic of sorting a costume on the day what she wasnt really very nice, but no one seemed to mind! Have started swimming at the weekends at Bondi Icebergs outdoor pool (photo one of my previous blogs) which is...bracing, but very satisfying, whether I shall be so keen when its winter I'm not so sure. Tonight I am starting a ceroc class in Bondi Junction, its a modern type of jive dancing and has been recommended to me so strictly come dancing here I come. Tomorrow night I have booked myself onto an 8 week photography course so I can actually learn how to properly use the fantastic camera I have........ I know arent I a little joiner! Last week went to see a fantastic play with a friend called "Snugglepot & Cuddlepie" based on a children book. It had been given the
Ettamogah Pub Brisbane
Just to make you all giggle! Shrek type approach and hence the audience was mainly made of adults killing themselves laughing at fully grown men dressed up as Num Nuts being chased by the Banksia men! This week as you can see from the photos went to the fantastic moonlight cinema in the cities botanic gardens. The series of outdoor films sell out within days of the tickets going on sale online but we managed to get tickets on the door. to enjoy some fantastic fish and chips and a couple of glasses of wine as the sun went down over the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The only downside was the amount of bats flying across the screen! This week am going to
Summit Bar for drinks after work on Friday as its my last day, a very fancy bar on the top floor of a building that revolves. Sunday there is a massive parade in the city celebrating Chinese New Year so will probably mosey on down there.
Have also been spending time researching my plans for when I finish working, (looking through travel brochures has got to be everyones favourite past-time!) for some travelling in Oz - decided I cant come here
twice and not see Uluru! then probably on to see some more of Indonesia on the way to meet Sarah in HK/China in Sept ish. Thats todays plan anyway!
