This the letter from my Sister Haibei today together with some photos that she took: Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2008, 9:47 AM Hello Bob, now I am a volunteer of the Provincial Red Cross. I have worked for them since May 13. I have sent a batch of supplies to one of the disaster affected areas: Han Yuan which is belongs to Ya An City. Now I work in Chengdu, managing transfer of all the supplies received from air to the areas needed. I have been moved so many times by so many stories. For example, the 4 drivers going with me to Han Yuan are also volunteers. We set off at about 9 pm after the last batch of materials were loaded and arrived Ya An City at about 12 am. For those who don’t know me, I came to Australia from Chengdu, China in 1990. Since then I have settled here and live in the tranquil quiet suburb of Balmain, Sydney. We're not going to give you a brief history of Australia. Needless to say - this was one place that Captain Cook was really very serious about and which became a British colony. Some of us (thankfully all in the past now) have questioned whether this was a sensible thing to do (most notably at the back of Stadium Australia - as was - in the (UK) summer of 1999). Age has polished those rough edges and (Nath) can now appreciate the differences between the wonders that Australia ... read more

Ah, New Years Eve… probably the most hyped-up day of the entire year. After enough nights out boozing and giggling with strangers and creepy men at the Establishment and Hugo's, I opt to spend this night watching the Harbor fireworks over the bridge from a park in Balmain East. Funnily, much like Christmas Eve this other major holiday night was spent laying out on a blanket watching the sky with a diver from Berlin. Only this time it wasn't the uber-sexy Fabian, but was my friend Daniel who I met on Gili Trawangan off Bali in August - happened to be living in Melbourne at the moment. Small world it is… and who says you never see these people you meet on travels again?? Daniel and I reunite, shoot the shit through the night and I ... read more
