I tried to keep my blog up during my first year in Australia. I actually wrote drafts twice, however with a very unsuccessful year with iPods, lost them before they got online. Although it is tempting to just forget it, I'm going to try grasp back some of the memories and give an outline of my year's events. To start, setting the scene: I traveled before but never on my own. I always had a friend to keep me company so Australia seemed a good place to try it alone; English speaking country and it wasn't just to travel but work too. I knew a week after arriving my parents would be joining me for 3 weeks (this knowledge didn't stop me getting emotional as I ... read more

Hello. How's it going? All well I do hope. I thought it ws bout time that I filled you in on the rest of my wanderings down the east coast of Australia. When I last wrote I think I was in Airlie Beach, so I'll pick up where I left off. After Airlie there was a day on the bus to get me to Agnes Water, which is a small little town partnered with the equally small little town called Town of 1770, or just 1770 most of the time. I was here for a couple of nights with the thing giving me the most to be excited about being the first appearance of waves on my whole trip. Who knew that the Great Barrier Reef acted as, well a barrier and stopped the whole of ... read more

G'day Guys!! So heres my Australia update since I got here. We arrived in Sydney, and we had to get a train and two buses to our hostel, which ended up being around an hours walk from the city centre. The hostel itself was aboslutely disgusting, and filthy, there was no cutlery at all, and the other people there were living there and working, they werent actually backpacking!! Stacey was accused of stealing sunglasses which she didnt steal, and the shower was a trickle of water, it was just a bit of a bad experience in that hostel. Still, we saw Darling harbour, the Sky Tower, we took a bus and went to Coogee beach and sunbathed til the afternoon. I managed to sneak in some photos with the lifeguards!! We sat on a surf and ... read more

Hello everyone! I’ve been in Sydney for the last few weeks, but now I’m on my way to Brisbane. The past couple of weeks have not been too eventful unless you count the earthquake in Christchurch, but that happened 5 days after I left. I was worried for a bit about some of my friends in New Zealand, but I eventually heard back from them all. I did have a job cleaning the hostel here for accommodation for a little while before I started working at a guys place renovating his kitchen with a couple other people from the hostel. I was unfortunately only able to work for 2 days as I sprained my wrist on the second day playing soccer (I was in goal and deflected a ball with my hand). I haven’t worked since ... read more

I recently started work for AMP - Australian biggest wealth management company. My office is located at St Leonards which is near North Sydney, initially I was disappointed that I am not work in the head office in the city centre where I could catch the ferry to work, until I found a better way than ferry, there are not many people in world as lucky as I am could go to work this way, here is how:... read more

We stayed in Sydney for 2 weeks, because it was such a long stay we really got to know the city and just had a pretty relaxing time there! The city itself was really nice, with lots to do... Art galleries, museum, markets, botanical gardens, Opera House, Harbour bridge, and of course go out and have a little drink!! We also ventured just out of the city to Bondi a few times, which was a really nice beach and seaside town. ... read more

Our last leg of our month long vacation to Oceania ended in Sydney, Australia!!! When we arrived to Sydney, one of my best college friends Aimee was there to pick us up!! It was great seeing Aimee after almost 5+ years! Aimee and her husband John were recently relocated to Sydney from Kansas City. Although they only have been there for 4 months, both of them have aclimated themselves to Sydney life. John and Aimee have a 3 bedroom apartment with amazing harbor views in the Balmain area of Sydney. The night we arrived Aimee made a delicious welcome home dinner using Australian ingredients such as prawns, capsacium, cheeses and wine. After an 11 day non-stop adventurous New Zealand gig, this hit the spot as we ate on their balcony. Later that evening, John arrived from ... read more

Our first day in Sydney started pretty well, we managed to naivagate our way around to drop the car back at Darling Harbour and then went for a bit of culture at the Maritime Museum, we decided against the aquarium due to ridiculous overpricing so instead we headed over to meet Chewy (another mate from the Asia trip) briefly before he left Sydney. Following this we decided to go on a wander through the city before heading back to rest our weary feet-and i managed to get a $10 hair cut from an English girl at the hostel. Nice couple actually we may be meeting up with them in Christchurch in a couple of days. Day two dawned bright and early and we managed to sucessfully navigate our way to the 'bridgeclimb' centre on the bus ... read more

I am back in Sydney and have settled into a routine of getting drunk every night and spending my days working on my CV, reading design blogs, starting my own design blog http://dnoise.wordpress.com/ pushing a few pixels around, looking at job sites and generally getting prepared for applying for jobs when we return to the UK. Our travels are nearly over we have a week in Thailand to unwind before flying back to England on the 14th April. It's a little earlier than we planned but we've spent all our money, which will be of no great surprise to anyone who knows Lou or I. Meet up with Emma, who is Matt's sister, her husband Jason and their dog Kyte. Emma cooked us a lovely meal while Jason kept my wine glass full all night. We ... read more
