Cute creature alert...Cute creature alert...Cute creature alert...

...and there's Koalas too!
Monday morning - up at 5am - caught the cross-town bus taking people home from the casino - 7am Greyhound - 7 hours on the bus - moved about a thumbs-width on the Australia map...but we did see our first wild Kangaroo from the window!

Port Macquarie (pronounced Mack-Quarry by the locals) was our base for a few days. We spent a really nice day on Tuesday exploring the coastline (some fantastic isolated beaches) before turning inland to visit an amazing Koala hospital in the middle of town.

On Wednesday, we had another top day walking through Booloonbung Creek spotting Flying foxes and avoiding snakes and spiders. On the way home while we were checking out the Pelicans in the harbour (who were enviously eyeing the fishermen on the shore), wild dolphins starting turning up in the water all around us. Awesome! That night we went out with everyone from the hostel (mostly Canadians, for some reason, with whom we spent a lot of time debating their portrayal in "South Park the movie", singing "Blame Canada" and asking them what it was all "aboot"*), won the local pub quiz (Tim had to go up and win the tiebreaker question), converted the prize money into bottles of Semillion Chardonday and ended up in some club for most of the night trying to get our names onto the Karoke list...

...luckily, we didn't have to get on the bus the next day for another 7 hour trip...oh hang on, yes we did...

*if you haven't seen the film you won't get these references but you may appreciate that these sporting Canadians that we met even reiterated the now famous national apology for Bryan Adams and Celine Dion
