There are 4 hot pools and 1 big swimming pool.
Hi all
Thanks for the emails received this week, we love getting news.
We ended up having 2 more days at Lightening Ridge - one day it rained, and the next we drove out west to the Grawn and Glengarry opal mining area, and did some fossicking there. There are two huge piles of rocks (tailings) that individual claim holders use as a dumping area, when they sink their bores. We saw several old trucks come in and dump rocks there. The public can fossick these areas, and we found some more rocks with small amounts of opal.
We left Lorne Station, up the "dry weather road" (after the rain it was still a bit sticky), and headed south east. We arrived at the freepark at Burren Junction Artesian Baths to find at least 25 other vans in a big camping area. The two nights we spent there were cold, with frosts each morning, but the free baths were great, we had several each day. The heater couldn't be used as we weren't plugged in to power, so we had early nights with our extra rugs on the bed. (I was pleased to have my hotwater bottle too!) It was 1

degree in the van each morning. The sunsets were very pretty. We had 2/3 of the Aussie Grey Nomad kit - crocks and noodles - but no terry towelling dressing gown! You needed a noodle at these pools to float around , the water was too deep to stand, with no seats, everyone just floated around on their noodles in the 39 degrees water.
From there we headed east and booked into Narrabri for 3 nights. The cotton centre we had hoped to see had closed, but we did 2 day trips to the Mount Kaputar National Park, about 50km to the east of Narrabri. The first day we headed up to the peaks, doing several walks to lookouts, and a nature trail. The views were great, and there were lots of kangaroos around. However, it was very cold, 4 degrees, and snow and icicles were around. The next day it drizzled with rain, so we went first to the Australia Telescope, then went up the other road to the Mt Kaputar National Park and saw Sawn Rocks - Australia's best example of organpiping geological formations. We walked that track in the drizzle, but were told it was now snowing again up where we had been the day before.
Today we headed north about 100km to Moree. We had been recommended this caravan park by several people - it had 4 hot pools - 36, 37, 38, and 39 degrees and a big cooler swimming pool. We tried them out this afternoon - great! But first, we hit town, in search of our No 3 item. We eventually found them in Woolworths (on special even!!), and bought ourselves a dressing gown each - mine is pink and Chris' is brown, just like the John Williamson song! So now we can wear our dressing gown over our togs to the pool, wearing our crocks, and with our noodles!!! True Grey Nomads are we!! Well off for another dip,
Regards
Lynne and Chris

"Crocks, noodles and dressing gowns" - oh my. It almost sounds like a foreign language. The hot pools would have been wonderful. When Carl and I were doing the South Island earlier this year, we stayed a few days in Hanmer Springs. The Springs had changed so much since our previous visit, and had pools with varying degrees as well. I loved it, but especially loved it one afternoon when it was raining. I can only imagine it with snow falling about. That will be for another trip. Continue to enjoy your adventure and sharing it with us
