So I have less than 2 weeks here in Australia and I am not going to lie, I am sad. I have had an amazing trip. I just took 2 finals last week, don’t have any class this week, and have one more final next week. Then I am done! On Friday two of my friends prepared a little presentation for our group of about 9 girls. I have known most of them since day 1 and we have traveled together for most of our trips, so we’ve gotten really close. My friend Nicole wrote a poem that highlighted all of our travels, fun moments and inside jokes. It was really sweet and I know when I read it again before I leave, I’ll cry. Mary did a PowerPoint presentation with a bunch of pictures and music to go along with it.
Friday night I decided I needed to go to be early because I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep the previous night. I was lying in bed watching “10 Things I Hate About You” when my mom comes waltzing into my room with my roommate! I was totally shocked and could not believe that she was
standing there in my room. So I guess she had been planning this thing all along, emailing my roommate Lauren back and forth. My dad, mom, and Eric were in Hawaii for Spring Break, so she came straight from there. When she landed from Brisbane she rented a car and drove all the way to my Uni on the left side of the road!!! I actually had a final the next day, but it wasn’t a big deal because she just drove around exploring. After my final I took her into Surfer’s Paradise and showed her around. Unfortunately the weather was really crappy the whole time she was here- so much for Queensland being the “sunshine state”. yeah right.
About 2 weeks ago, I finally decided that I was going to go skydiving, because I knew I would regret it if I didn’t do it. So naturally I was not going to tell my mom because it would only worry her. Well since she turned up the day before I was going to go, I kind of had to tell her. On Saturday morning we got picked up to go to Byron Bay. When we got to the sky
diving place, I had to fill out all of this paper work and sign forms that basically said, “I am aware that this is dangerous and I will not sue if anything happens”. The plane took off for the first jump of the day, but then we had to wait for some weather to pass before my friends Michelle, Mary, and I could go. Finally it was our turn and I was SO excited. My instructor was really nice and I felt confident that I wasn’t going to die since he has jumped over 7,500 times! Crikey! We all took off in the plane and it took us about 20 minutes to reach 14,000 feet, where we would jump. I was the second person to jump in our group and I actually was not that scared because I was supposed to put my head back on the instructor’s shoulder (So I couldn’t look down anyways.) Before I knew I was in free-fall and it was the most amazing feeling EVER. I don’t even know how to describe it. I could not stop smiling/laughing and all I could say was “this is so cool” over and over. After about a minute,
he pulled the chute and we flew up a couple hundred feet. Finally we came in for the landing. It was SO AMAZING. I think I am addicted and I definitely want to go again. However, I don’t think that will actually happen because that little adventure set me back about $500! It was sooo worth it though and I got pictures and a dedicated video to document the whole thing.
For the rest of the weekend I just showed my mom around various places here on the Gold Coast and I actually tried driving. That was interesting. I don’t think I ever want to do that again. :D
Well I think that’s about it for now. I should probably go back to studying for this upcoming final.
See y’all soon!
Love,
Kelly

Wow!
What a cool way to wrap up the semester, eh, Mate? A visit from your Mama and a leap from 14,000 feet! I'm so glad that you have gotten to do so many amazing things while you were there! Even though it will be sad, I've got to say, I'm looking forward to having you back in my Hemisphere! I love you!
