Happy Easter!
I hope everyone had a good holiday! Today I just got back from Sydney, which has been my best trip so far. It was a longer trip, so it was not as rushed and I got to see and do everything that I had planned on.
Four of us left Thursday morning to fly to Sydney. Once we arrived we took a bus to the University of New South Wales. One of my friend’s friend has an off-campus house that she let us stay in. All of her house-mates were on Spring Break, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. After we got situated we took a bus to downtown Sydney. We went to Darling Harbour, which is absolutely gorgeous by the way, and went to the Australian Maritime Museum. One of the photographs on the wall was of this random guy in a steel mill, wearing a UK hat!!!! I couldn’t believe it; I mean what are the chances of that? So I took a picture. After that, we ate dinner out on the pier. I ordered kangaroo and it was very tasty indeed. I have wanted to try it ever since I got
here, so I was excited that I finally filled that square.
Friday we got up and literally walked through the whole entire city. We started the day at the Rocks, the first establishment in Australia, and for breakfast we went to this restaurant called Pancakes on the Rocks. It was sooooo delicious. They have about every type of pancake you could ever want- we were in heaven. Then we walked up to Hyde Park, went inside St. Mary’s Cathedral, and walked to the Opera House. By this time we were exhausted and just took a break at a restaurant for a while to rejuvenate. Then it was time for the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb! We checked in and took about an hour to fill out paperwork, get all of our gear on, and do all of the safety mumbo-jumbo. I was actually really impressed with how efficient the whole operation was. So finally we got out onto the bridge. It took about 2 hours to go to the top and back, but that was only because our guide kept stopping to tell us interesting facts or tell cheesy jokes. The climb was really fun and it was awesome to
overlook the entire city from that far up!
On Saturday we went to the markets and Chinatown. We were so sore from walking all over the city, so we got a Chinese massage, which was amazing. For lunch we found a place and I ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Let’s just say it’s not quite the same as it is in the States, for obvious reasons. The chicken was really sketch and there were heaps of little hot red peppers all over it. I like spicy food, but even I couldn’t handle that. After I picked out all of those flaming hot things, I decided to count them- 81!!!!!!!!! 81, I tell you! I am glad I didn’t eat all of those b/c my stomach would have really hated me.
Sunday was our last full day in Sydney and it started at 5:15am for an all day tour of the Blue Mountains. We were planning on doing it Saturday, but it was booked, so we had to do it Sunday. Of course it was Easter and I felt horrible not going to Church. I don’t think I have ever missed Church on Easter 😞 The tour was really fun
though and we were extremely lucky that the weather was semi-decent and not pouring down rain the whole time. Our tour-guide went by the name of “Frat” and was hilarious. My friend and I asked him where he got that name, but he wouldn’t tell us. Whenever we got back in the bus, he would play this corny song called “G’day”. Apparently the record for this song being played was 27 times. I think I will have that song stuck in my head for eternity b/c he played it so many times. We also listened to regular music, but on our way back he played “Frat FM’s cheese-fest” which included Hanson’s Mmm-Bop” and other equally classic songs to keep us awake.
Of course one of my trips would not be complete without a story of some sort. After dinner last night we were beat from all of the touring we had done over the past few days. We were on the bus back home, practically falling a sleep in our seats, when the door of the bus decides to fall off. So we had to get off of this bus in the middle of who-knows -where to wait for
another bus. Meanwhile, it starts raining, and we were like, “Man, this WOULD happen to us!” Haha!! It was funny though, b/c something like that ALWAYS happens.
This is probably one of my last blogs, b/c I only have 3 weekends left and I don’t have any more big trips planned. I also need to start thinking about Finals.
I am getting a tad anxious and excited to come home and see everyone!
As always, I hope everyone is doing well. I miss you all bunches!
Love,
Kelly

wonderful Easter!
Wow Kel! Sounds like you had a great weekend. And from the looks of the Blue Mountains, Church could be found there. Looks like a really beautiful place. That's so cool that you climbed the Sydney Bridge. Do you know how high that is? That's awesome! Your semester in Australia is coming to a close, but it sounds like you have made the best of every moment! Love you and as always...it was great to hear your stories. Love, Katie
